Manjari
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Manjari is the working name of the Norwegian singer Trude Trefall.
Manjari is known for the song "Lys" (Lights), which she performed in the Norwegian finale for The Eurovision Song Contest in 1997.
Norwegian writer Jostein Pedersen] describes this finale thus:
- The surprise of the year and one of the best and most original songs of the Grand Prix history was no. 2 - Rune Lindstrøm's song "Lys" performed by 18 years old Trude Trefall from Bergen under the Artist-name Manjari. Lindstrøm was drummer in the band deLillos earlier on, but had departed from the worldly life to become a member of the Hare Krishna-movement. There he met Trefall with her magnificent voice. "Lys" was a modern pop-song, a mixture of earlier Bel Canto with world music/etnical influences convincingly performed. The song was released as a radio-single by Virgin, and afterwords there was only silence from Manjari. The anonymity, the quality and the originality has made "Lys" a very attractive collectors-item for Eurovision Song Contest fans all over Europe.
