Maniac Latin Disciples

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maniac Latin Disciples are a gang from the West Side of Chicago.

One of their "hoods" is North and Lawndale neighborhood. There are also several other sets/hoods such as the "Twilight Zone", "The Dark Side", and "Crystal".

In this area of Chicago alone, in no particular order or grouping, these would include gangs with smaller sets, like:

Latin Lovers, Ponchuco Kings, Brazers, Saints, Bishops.

Colors: The colors of the gang are Black and Light Blue or "Baby Blue". These are usually displayed as light blue cardigans, converse all-stars with laces of opposite color, and the five point star with a 'cracked' symbol indicating the destruction of the five point star of the "People" nation.

A hooded monk holding a pitchfork,a swastica(not used for white supremicist purposes),and a heart with horns and a tail are symbols of the Maniac Latin Disciples.

Origin The MLD's were known as the Latin Scorpions during the 1960s.After developing an allience with the Black Gangster Disciples during the early 1970s, the gangs leader changed the name to Latin Disciples.

The MLD's are mostly a Puerto Rican and Mexican gang.

Hoods:

During the 80's much of the city population accepted gang warfare as a daily reality. Almost any neighboorhood you visit in Chicago will be clearly marked as to what territorial boundaries belonged to which "sets". In Chicago, "sets" (a West Coast word used by LA street gangs) are known as "hoods".

A particular hood is usually named for it's geographical street location of two intersecting streets. These are chosen for a variety of reasons, and sometimes shift when the structural format of the gang adjusts to various factors.

Such factors include presence of law enforcement, ability to conduct narcotics sales, defend against enemy attacks, or create ambush zones.

Their resulting "street corner" may or may not be the primary location of the gang members, just a simple designation.

In other examples, these are years-long and singly-held territories that are invincible to any form of compromise. Such as buildings in residential projects as Cabrini Green, or Robert Taylor Homes.

Grid of Hoods: An example of a zone of such hoods occupied by opposing forces might be:
