Mangit dynasty
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mangit dynasty was the Uzbek dynasty that ruled the Khanate of Bukhara from 18th century until the Russian Civil War. Mangit power began to grow in mid-1700s, and the family finally took control of Bukhara after the demise of the House of Astrakhan in 1784. The Mangit rulers preferred to use the title of Emir, despite the fact that Bukhara was nominally a khanate, following the example of Timur/Tamerlane. The Khanate came under Russian rule in 19th century but the Mangits retained control. The end of the rule of the House of Mangit came during the Russian civil war after the Red Army finally captured the city of Bukhara in September 1920.
