Mandelbrot (or Mandel Brodt) literally means almond bread. It is a twice-baked cake that is similar to Italian Biscotti. Mandelbrot is a dessert associated with Eastern European Jews, although its precise origin is unknown. Although the name seems to indicate that it should be made with almonds, Mandelbrot also can be made with other ingredients. It usually made into a loaf, and can be sliced like hard bread.
