Male Unbonding was the second episode of Seinfeld to be made, and the fourth to be shown. It aired on June 14, 1990.
The episode was written by Larry David & Jerry Seinfeld and was directed by Tom Cherones.
[edit] Plot
Jerry has problems with a childhood friend, Joel Horneck, who persists in keeping in touch with him. George obsesses over a girlfriend dumping him for floss-related reasons. This was the first episode made with Elaine as a character (although "The Stakeout" was aired before it), who helps Jerry make excuses not to see Joel. Kramer comes up with an idea about "a pizza place where you make your own pie" (which appears prominently in later episodes, most notably "The Couch").
[edit] Quotes
- Jerry: I was ten... I would've been friends with Stalin if he had a Ping-Pong table.
--
- Jerry: I'm really running out of excuses with this guy. I need some sort of "excuse Rolodex."
--
- George: I know a guy who took a vacation on his change.
- Jerry: Where'd he go, the arcade?
--
- George: You can't just have people shoving their arms into 600 degree ovens.
- Kramer: It'll all be supervised!
[edit] Trivia
- It's the first episode where Kramer mentions the Kramerica Industries. It will be mentioned again in "The Voice".
- Kramer's pizza idea will reappear in "The Couch".
- If you exclude the pilot (although the pilot's official name according to the producers is "The Seinfeld Chronicles", not "Good News, Bad News" as was previously thought), this is the only episode not to start with "The".
- Kevin Dunn, the actor who played Joel, auditioned for the role of George Costanza
