Malacandra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Malacandra is the name given to the planet Mars in C. S. Lewis's Space Trilogy.
In Out of the Silent Planet, Malacandra is inhabited by three intelligent species, the Hrossa, Seroni, and Pfifltriggi. The planet is 'ruled' by the Oyarsa of Malacandra, who resides at Meldidorn.
Other species described include the hnakra (plural hnéraki) - a fierce aquatic predator.
Features ascribed to Malacandra by Lewis are abundance of gold, and tepidity of all open bodies of water. Because of the low gravity, the plants and mountains are tall and thin.
