[edit] Story
When Makoto's father, Masaru, died, she inherited the Rindoukan Dojo in Tosa. She travels around the world trying to promote the dojo, which is in financial distress. She finds and fights Ryu, and brings prestige back to the dojo.
Makoto was originally intended to be Ryu's sister, but the idea was scrapped when that was deemed to be incompatible with the canon of the series.
[edit] Appearance
Makoto wears a white dogi with a long, yellow scarf worn around her neck, the latter being a gift from her late father. She has a short hairstyle and a generally boyish appearance. She is a generic Tomboy or Japanese "martial arts girl" stock character, even having a gender-neutral name, and thus resembles many different Japanese anime and fighting game characters. Though her outfit is similar in appearance to Ryu and Ken, she does not practice Ansatsuken, and does not have a projectile. Makoto's karate style is Rindoukan Ger in-game fighting style strongly resembles Shotokan karate, with her signature move "Hayate"; and Goju-ryu, with her deep striding walking movement.
[edit] Gameplay
Makoto can be played at a very high level of competition in Third Strike, though is not as common as top tier characters such as Chun Li, Yun, or Ken. She has a long dash, powerful moves that inflict high stun damage, and a large movelist, as most of her normal attacks can be modified by inputting "forward" at the same time. One of her most effective moves is the Karakusa, which grabs the opponent and stuns them momentarily, setting him or her up for a combo.
[edit] Trivia
- In the Street Fighter Alpha movie, there is a male character called Shun who looks much alike Makoto and claims to be Ryu's little brother. This may be homage to Makoto's original design of being Ryu's little sister.
