Makki di roti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roti, in general, refers to the Indian flatbread cooked on an iron griddle. Makki di roti refers to a special roti in which, unlike the usual wheat flour, cornflour is used. The name Makki Di Roti literally means "Roti made from cornflour"

The Makki roti is yellow in color when ready, and has much less adhesive strength - which makes it difficult to handle. Due to this, cooking the Makki Roti is much more difficult than the ordinary (wheat) roti.

Makki Roti is cooked in Punjab in winters and is a world famous delicacy from the north-Indian state, especially together with Saron Da Saag or Sarson Ka Saag (cooked mustard leaves) and Lassi (buttermilk).
