Maki Genryusai, (マキ Maki or 源柳斎真紀 Genryūsai Maki) is a video game character in both the Final Fight and Street Fighter series. She is a Bushin ninja, who wears a red ninja gi. In later games, Maki fights with a tonfa and wears tennis shoes similar to Guy's.

[edit] Story

In Final Fight 2, a new version of the Mad Gear gang kidnapped the 37th Bushin Master, Genryusai and his daughter, Rena (Maki's father and sister respectively). With the help of professional wrestler and then mayor of Metro City, Mike Haggar and Carlos (a sword-wielding boarder that stayed with Haggar), she traveled around the world and defeated the group's leader, Retu.

In the GBA and PSP versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3, she sought to fight Guy to become the 40th Bushin master.

[edit] Trivia

  • In Capcom vs. SNK 2, it was officially revealed that her father, Genryusai, has died since the events of Final Fight 2.
  • Maki was made into a playable character in the GBA and PSP versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3, following her appearance in Capcom vs. SNK 2. In the game, her final opponent before M. Bison is Guy.
  • The tonfa Maki carries in later games originally appeared in Final Fight 2 as a pick up weapon.
  • The manual for the English version of Final Fight 2 states that Maki is peaceful and hates fighting. However, this contradicts her profile in Capcom vs. SNK 2 and the Japanese version of Final Fight 2 and other official Japanese sourcebooks. Although Maki does not have a violent nature, she loves action in street fighting (which is listed is her hobby in the Japanese version) and also led a biker gang while in high school.
  • Maki's sister, Rena, is Guy's fiance during the Final Fight 2 storyline. However, in Final Fight: Streetwise, it states that Guy has married Rena, so she is now his sister-in-law.
  • In Final Fight 2, Maki's hair was a blonde in some parts of the game such as the cutscenes. Her sprite, however, had her with orange hair. She also sported a backless ninja gi with a fishnet shirt underneath. However, she is later depicted as being blonde and was given a different outfit to possibly differentiate herself from the similar looking Mai Shiranui for Capcom vs. SNK 2.
  • Maki's Reppukyaku move is a reference to Final Fight 2, as it was her special move in the game. Maki also loses some vitality if she performs it, which is a reference to how vitality is lost when a special move is performed in all of the Final Fight games.
  • In Final Fight Streetwise, one of the kunoichi (female ninja) in Japan Town is named Maki. It is, however, very unlikely if these two are the same person.
