Major David Hudson joined the Australian Army as a soldier in February 1968. Selected to attend the Officer Cadet School at Portsea, he graduated to the Royal Australian Infantry Corps in December 1970. David resigned from the Army in 1979 to work with Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd in the Pilbara region, but decided to reinstate his regular commission late in 1980. With first hand experience in the harsh Pilbara region, he was chosen to raise the Pilbara Regiment as the inaugural Commanding Officer from 1982 - 1984. Major Hudson subsequently served primarily in operational command postings in the roles of Operations Officer, Second-in-Command and Brigade Major. He resigned from the Regular Army in 1996 while serving as Officer Commanding Battle Wing Canungra, the renowned Jungle Warfare Training Centre. Major Hudson's daughter and son have both since served in the Australian Army as commissioned officers. David Hudson is now a recognised authority and consultant in project management, living in Brisbane.
