While it is indeed found that Bartlett's stomach contained a fatal quantity of chloroform (although had not caused any damage to his throat or windpipe), Adelaide Bartlett was acquitted possibly because the prosecution were unable to explain the cause of death or how she could have committed the crime.
1888 Jack the Ripper 5+ Whitechapel, London, England At least five prostitutes murdered and mutilated by an unidentified serial killer known only as "Jack the Ripper" as dubbed by the press. The murderer eventually disappeared and was never apprehended.
