[edit] White Zimbabweans

On 28 October you were kind enough to close the AfD debate on this article and determine that it should be deleted. Its discussion page has been deleted, but the article itself is still there. Will the article be deleted soon?. regards Bob BScar23625 15:49, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Mailer diablo. Thanks a lot. I was anxious to get that one out of the way. Bob BScar23625 09:11, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding a recent deletion...

This is the Byeard Maggott, host of the infamous Maggott Show. I was recently informed that the article about me here was deleted by your hand (due to a questionable speedy delete by JzG).

I decided to go ahead and respond in a special Maggott Show, because it was funnier that way:

http://www.ghazporkindustrial.com/index.php?P=maggottshow

It's very inflammatory. Enjoy!

[edit] Thank you for supporting my RfA

Thank you for your support in my RfA, which passed with a final tally of (56/0/2). It was great to see so much kind support from such competent editors and administrators as commented on my RfA.

I know I have much reading to do before I'll feel comfortable enough to use some of the more powerful admin tools, so I'll get right to it.

Again, thanks;  OzLawyer / talk  13:18, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RFA support

Thanks - believe it or not, your support without comment means as much as some of those with comments. I was putting off the nom for a while, and thinking of holding off until I met WP:1FA by my own work, but it's hard, especially in a certain area. Eventually I hoped that my work helping other FAs would be good enough and decided to go ahead. I appreciate it. AnonEMouse (squeak) 15:06, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your questions

Hi. I noticed you added a standard, 4-point question to the candidates in the upcoming ArbCom election. However, in the case of one particular candidate, Uninvited Company, you might need to make a few adjustments. Namely regarding your third question: notice that UC already has both Oversight and CheckUser permissions (and for a while, he handled the public requests for CheckUser at RCU almost single-handedly). He's on a mini-wikibreak right now, but when he returns, he will be likely to reply by telling you exactly this, so you might be interested in revising your questions until then. I hope this helps. Regards, Redux 00:35, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PSP (Firmware)

Hey. =P I was just wondering why the PSP (Firmware) article got deleted. Wouldn't all of the votes up to a certain point be moot after the overhaul of the page?

[edit] Reinstate entry for Aplus.Net immediately

The site "Aplus.Net" was unfairly marked for speedy deletion by someone claiming that it was reposting of a deleted article. It was not. The explanation:

A site entitled "Aplus.Net" was deleted in August 2006 for being too promotional. That entry was soon reposted, entirely rewritten in an encyclopedic, non-promotional format. The rewritten page existed on Wikipedia from August 2006 to November 2006 without complaint. It was discovered the first week of November 2006 that the name was misidentified: Aplus.net should have been Aplus.Net. After this correction, a user immediately marked the page for quick deletion. The reason given was the invalid one of reposting a deleted article, which is untrue as it was a reposting of an article that had never been deleted and had been on the site for some four months.

The now-deleted entry for "Aplus.Net" was written in the style of the page for "Godaddy", a similar company that has graciously been allowed to have a page on Wikipedia. The article is not promotinal and was written carefully so as not to violate any codes. Please reinstate immediately to ammend unfair deletion suggested by biased and misinformed observers.

Thank you. user: dnate76, November 3 2006

[edit] November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

[edit] Brooke Skye

First, let me say, I don't give a tinker's damn about Brooke Skye. But Wikipedia is so astonishingly broad in what it covers (almost anything I can think of is there), I cannot see why (yes, worthles, frivolous) Brooke Skye is deleted when you have actively listed, just to name a very short sampling:

- Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme

- Annabella Lwin (14-year-old lead singer of Bow Wow Wow)

- Heidi Fleiss

- Linda Lovelace (porno)

- Monica Lewinsky

- Linda Tripp

- Marilyn Chambers (porno)

- House on the Left (horrific sex-mutilation-torture-murder flick)

- 1910 Fruitgum Company (utterably forgettable bubble gum band from the 60s)

- Sydney Biddle Barrows (Mayflower Madam)

- Tiny Tim

- Nancy Spungen

- Pet Rocks

- Puff the Magic Dragon

I mean, come on. I think that to delete some insignificant trivial worthless dustball like Brooke Skye from Wikipedia is manifestly inconsistent with the whole Wikipedia enterprise.

Thanks for listening.

[edit] Coincidence Theory

Per my comment here [1], I'd like to make the article a redirect to the mathematical article on the term. Is that an issue? Spark* 13:32, 6 November 2006 (UTC) (P.S. nice pic up top)

[edit] List of unique high school mascots

According to the AfD discussion, the debate was closed with a decision of delete, yet the article still stands. It wasn't recreated as it still has the AfD tag on it. I think it just slipped through the cracks and wasn't deleted. IrishGuy talk 18:42, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arizona Masters Swimming

Mr. Diablo,

I noticed that the Wikipedia entry for Arizona Masters Swimming was deleted recently. I am dismayed by this decision and ask that you consider re-listing it on the site.

We are a non-profit, tax-exempt organization comprised of volunteers who seek to advance awareness and participation in swimming. Unlike professional (NFL, NCAA, MLB, NASCAR, etc.) teams, athletes, personalities, etc. we don't derive any income from our participation in our sport. In fact, we spend money every month so we can swim at our local programs.

Our parent organization has a page that is live, which is for the 40,000 nation-wide members of our sport.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Masters_Swimming

Regarding the subject of promoting a team or conference, you have a very large, big-money NCAA conference listed. This conference generates millions of dollars for the NCAA in TV and radio revenue every year and has many endorsement deals which bring in millions more.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_10

Instead of deleting this page, how about we work together to ensure the page conforms with your standards. Apparently we need coaching in this regard and would readily accept help. I look forward to seeing our page active again on Wikipedia and working with some of your experts on ensuring the content conforms with your rigorous standards.

Regards,

Doug Adamavich Vice Chairman Arizona Masters Swimming

[edit] Isabella V

I commented briefly on the AfD but didn't take time to look at it. Looking it over, it appears to me that her blog meets criterion 1 of WP:WEB "content has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the site" In particular, the articles in Wired and Esquire seem to fulfill this condition. I was therefore wondering if I could persuade you to either a) undelete or b) re-open the AfD. If neither of those appeal to you I'll take it through DRV but since this seems to be a clear issue of insufficient research in the AfD process, I was hoping that that unnecessary red-tape could be avoided. [edit] Singapore passport

Hi

Need an opinion here. At the above page, a user persists in adding a prod tag to the article despite the template being meant only for uncontested nominations. I've put my point across on the talk page on multiple occasions but he persists. I'm dropping a note on your talk page (and on the other 2 Singaporean admins') to see if you can assist. If the page is not notable or should be deleted, so be it. But not this way. --Rifleman 82 20:27, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Undeletion of "Special moments of Hungary's 1956 uprising"

Hi & happy (belated) first edit day! I'd like to ask you whether it's possible to restore the deleted article "Special moments of Hungary's 1956 uprising". There are lots of editors who would have voted for keeping it, they just weren't aware that it's up for deletion (I know it's no excuse but we miss that article...)

As far as I understand, the main reasons for its deletion were that its title is unenclyclopedic, that it's unsourced and that it exhibits POV and looks like an essay. Now I don't really think the stupid title was the main reason because it can be changed easily. About the article being unsourced: I know it was our fault that we did not provide references, and I asked the original author of the article to find the sources he used when he wrote the article, and now almost every single fact is sourced in Hungarian Wikipedia's article Az 1956-os forradalom különleges pillanatai, of which the English article was an exact translation. The only three which are unsourced are the last 3 2 ones; one of them has its own article and is referenced there; one's source is still being looked for but the fact itself is quite well known in Hungary; and the last one is about the Blood in the water match, which has its own article even here on EnWiki.

About the 3rd reason for deletion (the content being unencyclopedic): It was originally planned to be a trivia section of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution article, but that article was long enough in itself and in Hungarian Wikipedia it already has several sub-articles, so we thought why not have a separate article for these facts too? They are interesting, they are true (and now referenced) and tidbits like this help bringing history closer to the average reader. It would be nice of you to reconsider your decision about this. Thanks in advance and sorry that this message is this long, I wanted to give a detailed explanation of why I think it would be good to undelete it.

Regards,
