[edit] Admin coaching
Hi! While User:Titoxd is on a Wikibreak, he gave me permission to do some leg-work concerning Esperanza admin coaching. I was curious how your coaching with User:Aaron is going. If it is finished (or even if it isn't), would you be able to take on another coachee? Don't feel guilty if you don't have the time- I perfectly understand, and wouldn't want anyone feel overworked. Thanks for all your time! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 04:35, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I have assigned User:Tdxiang as your coachee. Thanks for all your support of the admin coaching program, and let me know if you have any questions. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 05:45, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
- "Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them. InformationWelcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
- The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
- The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
- The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there. Signed...[edit] Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. [edit] Evan Lee Dahl article
Hello Mr. Diablo,
I wrote an article on actor Evan Lee Dahl that was deleted because of lack of notability, vanity, or just plain not a known actor. He has since won 2 awards. The 2006 Young Artist Award and the 2006 MethodFest award. I tried to add a new article today stating the he is an award winning actor. It was not only deleted again, but placed into the category of Protected deleted pages. I am new to this and am asking for your help.

Hi Mailer diablo. I see you closed the Albert Baumann deletion discussion. [edit] My RFA
Hi, this is Matt Yeager. I wanted to thank you for your vote on my request for adminship. The count was something like was 14/20/5 when I decided to withdraw the request. My decision was based on the fact that there are enough things wasting people's time on the Internet that doomed RFA's shouldn't be kept up for voters to have to think about. Regardless of the rationale behind your vote, I hope you will read this note for an extended note and discussion on what will happen before I make another try at adminship (I didn't want to clog up your userpage with drivel that you might not be interested in reading). Thank you very, very much for your vote and your time and consideration of my credentials--regardless of whether you voted support, nuetral, or oppose. Happy editing! [edit] VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download
Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. [edit] About editing 'Lord Sarabheswara'
Hello Hettar:
My user ID in wikipedia.org is Subravenkat, and I have recently started creating/editing pages in Wikipedia.org.
I have created an item titled Lord Sarabhesvara, which I notice you had redirected to the article on Lord Shiva. I do appreciate your intention to help, but request you not to redirect it to the 'Lord Shiva' article because the article on Lord Shiva has no mention whatsoever of His assuming the form of a Sharaba.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

[edit] Afd Cool (African philosophy)
Just a brief thank you for your work on this contentious Afd. Please note that I felt compelled to slightly alter the record after you shut down the page. I only just now noticed that when the page was undergoing constant reordering by two or three people (presumably, in an attempt to make it more intelligible/coherent), someone deleted my boldface notation that I had changed my vote and then also placed my original comments supporting merging the two articles under my "keep" vote. Because the information as reordered -- and particularly without the subhead -- was really confusing, I simply did a strike-through of my earlier language. That way, the language is preserved, but it is clear that it was no longer current for much of the discussion. Deeceevoice 09:20, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
I see that someone already has reverted my strikeover. Because the changes to my post by those wishing to make the discussion more coherent have succeeded in only muddying my position on the matter, I would appreciate it if you would reinstate my change[1] -- so that the record is clear for those reviewing the discussion. Perhaps if you make that change, it will stand. Thanks. Deeceevoice 11:06, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. "...but please avoid having to modify a closed AfD yourself in future." Well, of course -- but one doesn't ordinarily expect one's comments to be moved around or deleted. Given my schedule, it was all I could do to try to keep up with all the garbage being slung in my direction. Peace. Deeceevoice 20:16, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ric Romero comment
Hi, I'd be interested to find out whether you thought my comment at the start of the Ric Romero AfD was justified, unjustified and/or patronising to the admins.
The comment was removed here. I think it was pretty obvious that the Fark influence *did* have a biasing influence on the discussion, and since when was blatant comment removal (as opposed to moving it) not vandalism?
Maybe I'm making too much of a big deal of this, but if it was just a silly comment, why so many attempts to remove it?
Please let me know what you think, thanks.

FYI, this is being discussed at deletion review. Calling it no consensus wasn't unreasonable, but wasn't (IMO) the best answer, either. Thought you might want to pop in over there and comment. Friday (talk) 17:25, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of shock sites (fourth nomination)
Hi. I am posting this in regards to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of shock sites (fourth nomination). I am just wondering, if you are open to comment on this, why you marked this as no concensus when the vote count was nearly 2-1 (from my cursory ctrl + f search) in favor of keep? Thanks. Hobbeslover 00:49, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for the response. I knew that it was keep by default, but I think the no concensus is giving fuel for the deletion forces in the edit war that's currently happening in the article. A clear up or down vote would have been better; however, I didn't know about the 3-1 being a concensus. If that is the case, then I guess my concerns are moot. Thanks for the explanation :\ Hobbeslover 01:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] That stress meter.....

Oh man, I completely understand finals stress. I'm really supposed to be doing some writing now, actually, but instead I thought I'd gripe about it with a fellow Wikipedian. Just think, a couple more weeks and everything will be over, and then we can all start collecting an unemployment check while applying for a job at McDonald's. That's my plan, at least.
Hope you feel better, physically and stress-wise. Drop me a line if you feel like dumping any academic grievances. Ah, and in case I forget to mention it later, the AfD graphic on your user page is brilliant. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 10:20, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ack! November? No wonder you're feeling pressure. I actually have more in common with what you're describing than I've let on (long term grade struggles despite hard effort, for example), so I can sympathize with your situation. Ah, and the unemployment check part was a joke; I have a job. At any rate, sounds like you've got quite a bit on your plate. I hope you've had time in between all that work to take it easy and be away from some of the demands and expectations which have been biting at your heels — I won't presume to offer advice concerning such a signficant subject to another Wikipedian whom I don't know outside of talk pages, so perhaps the best I can offer you is my sympathies and a prayer for your wellbeing during the next several months. Again, if there's anything I can do here to help you out, don't hesitate to drop it on me. If nothing else, I'm always around to hear complaints! Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 11:04, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- Heh, what's important is that it wasn't a good joke. Of course, some people would say receiving a check for doing nothing is a joke in and of itself. At any rate, if you think to, let me know how things come along... otherwise, I'll just start bugging you about it when I get curious. Cheers. Tijuana Brass¡Épa!-E@ 11:15, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] South Dakota abortion law controversy
All righty then, would YOU be so kind as to close the AfD process on that page? In about fifteen hours, barring objections, I'm going to move South Dakota reproductive rights controversy to South Dakota H.B. 1215 Controversy, and South Dakota abortion law controversy needs to be deleted and redirected to South Dakota H.B. 1215 Controversy. Struct 08:32, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, Struct. Wikipedia:Deletion policy#Lag times states "Once a page is listed for deletion by listing on one of the different pages, the nomination is kept open for a period of time to allow for community comment." An AfD needs to stay active for 5 days, accordingly. I'm not a regular participant in AfD and not sure when it's appropriate to bend this rule. Try User: Mailer diablo. -- PFHLai 08:49, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- Mailer diablo, according to the deletion logs, you are working on AfD right now. Can you help, please ? -- PFHLai 08:49, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'm a relative newcomer, and I'm really trying to give the WM process a chance. I don't want to do anything improper. There seems to be a clear consensus for deletion and redirection, but if that's not sufficient, I have no problem with leaving that page up for a few more days. I'm just trying to tidy everything up before tomorrow's move of SD:RRC. Struct 08:55, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you, Mailer Diablo, for your swift response. -- PFHLai 09:03, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- A compromise consensus has been reached to move South Dakota reproductive rights controversy to South Dakota H.B. 1215 controversy. I was going to wait, but I think it's safe to make that change. And I thank you for your prompt response as well. Struct 09:04, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted accounts and comments
Hi, I'd like to ask you about something that's been bothering me. A user by the name of Brian G. Crawford has apparently had one of his older accounts (BrianGCrawfordMA) deleted completely.
Thing is, this person claimed that he was leaving Wikipedia, and as far as I can tell, the old account (already in disuse) was removed completely at that stage. The history of the user page of the *current* account prior to then has also been erased.
I find it very disturbing that this user has made some controversial comments (including some on the user page of his old account which may colour opinions of his current actions) that are no longer "on the system" as far as ordinary users are concerned.
I can (at a stretch) understand that there may be circumstances under which a particularly unhappy user may wish to leave Wikipedia and/or have certain or all comments erased. What I am unhappy with is that after leaving (posting a self-pitying "R.I.P" user box on his user page), he came back, and is now editing as normal; but with the benefit of much of his history being wiped.
Any thoughts?

- "Anything that is compatible with the Wikipedia project. It's a mistake to think of it as a homepage: Wikipedia is not a free host, blog, or webspace provider.
