Maik Taylor signed for Blues originally on a year long loan deal with the possibility of permanent contract. After a tremendous start to his Blues career Steve Bruce decided to make the contract permanent when the January transfer window opened, Maik continued his impressive form and was rewarded by being voted as the goalkeeper for the Premiership team of the season 20003/04.

Taylor first signed for Fulham Football Club in 1997 from Southampton at a cost of £700,000. The then manager Kevin keegan rated him as the "best taker of a cross in Britain". Taylor proved to be a quality signing for the Cottagers and helped them to the Second Division title, followed the year after by the First and thus Promotion to the Premiership.

The German-born Northern Ireland International was first spotted by Ray Clemence and at 6'3" Maik is an imposing figure who commands his area with confidence.
