Maine Turnpike

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Maine Turnpike runs from Kittery to Augusta and is a toll road for all of its length except for a short section in Kittery and York. As of January 2004, it is signed entirely as Interstate 95. Flat-fee tolls are paid upon entering the turnpike and there are also barrier tolls in York, New Gloucester, and Gardiner. As of February 1, 2005, the former Transpass electronic toll collection system has been discontinued and the turnpike joined the E-ZPass network.

[edit] Exit List

The turnpike had 15 original interchanges, not counting the southern terminus at US 1 in Kittery. 4 interchanges have been added since, and the Gardiner interchange was modified and split to accommodate a connection to I-295.

There are ramps to/from the northbound turnpike to the Saco Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Saco at MP 33. The ramps are from the original exit 5 which was replaced when I-195 was opened 2 miles to the north. The hotel was built on the site of the old toll plaza. Ramps connecting the hotel to/from the southbound turnpike were removed as part of the widening project in the early 2000s.
