[edit] Mark Hollander
Mark is a 13-15 year old from London, United Kingdom who moved to America with his parents, Simon and Fiona. Mark is a marvel at playing video games and sports such as football. He is also a skateboarder. Mark is brave, kind and a bit of a computer whizz. However, his life was turned upside-down when Ace Lightning and the other characters from his favourite video game came to life. Mark became Ace's sidekick. Mark was rather frightened of Lord Fear and his gang at first, but eventually learnt to trust in himself. Mark has had three known girlfriends: Samantha Thompson, Heather Hoffs and Kat Adams. He stood Sam and Heather up a lot, but Sam forgave him while Heather did not and tried to wreck his life in Season Two. Mark's best friends are Chuck, Pete and Ace. He has a wrist cannon that fires lightning bolts, which fans have named the "Super-Glove of Doom".
Mark was just a normal teenager until Ace Lightning came to life. He became very protective of his loved ones and tried his best to keep his double life a secret, but several people discovered the truth of Ace. Mark briefly quit being a Lightning Knight when Sparx questioned his size. He rejoined when Ace became a zombie for a short while. Mark helped defeat Lord Fear the first time around by shattering the Amulet.
Mark matured in Season 2, and started dating Kat Adams, although he kept Samantha a secret from her for half of the series. Mark gained his own wrist cannon so he could now fight, and with Chuck he learnt that the Master Programmer (Rick) created Kilobyte. Mark is played by Tom Wansey.
[edit] Chuck Mugel
Chuck is Mark's best friend and second sidekick to Ace. Chuck originally was a fat, unpopular kid who liked to eat junk food and read comic books. Chuck was beaten up by Wayne Fisgus a lot in middle school, Wayne calling Chuck "Upchuck" for his suffering of motion sickness. Chuck also disliked playing sports. Chuck is a whizz with computers and has also constructed his own robot with help from Mr. Cheseborough known as Leviathan X-L 1, which won him a place in computer camp. Chuck is currently dating Jessica Fisgus, Wayne's cousin.
Chuck has played the Ace Lightning video game for ages and is an expert on it. And when Ace Lightning came to life, Chuck claimed meeting him was the happiest moment of his life. Some of Chuck's most memorable moments including vomiting horrifically in the middle of the school canteen after he found a pea in his tapioca pudding, creating a robot and getting struck by a deflected lightning bolt which temporarily gave him great strength and energy, and he gave himself the nickname of "Thunderfoot".
In Season 2, Chuck lost weight and wore glasses. He worked at Rick's Computer Shack, although he usually played video games instead of working. He became a second sidekick to Ace and upgraded the Lightning Knights a couple of times. At one point Mark grew jealous of Chuck and allowed him to be possessed by Rotgut. Chuck once rode a scooter but now uses Rick's van to get about. Chuck is played by Marc Minardi.
[edit] Samantha Thompson
Samantha or Sam for short was the main female star of the first season, as Mark's first girlfriend and next door neighbour. Samantha originally dated Brett Ramirez and then shortly began to date Mark. She was always suspicious of him when he dashed off or got protective, and figured it had something to do with his video game and the local carnival. Samantha's best friend is Heather Hoffs, and her hobbies include rollerskating and cheerleading. Samantha broke up with Mark half way through the series and started dating Brett again. In the last episode of season one, Brett and Heather wound up together so Samantha and Mark became a couple again.
At the start of Season 2, Samantha went to a boarding school and started dating a boy named Jeremy. She eventually visited Mark and the others and revealed all to Mark. She also met Kat and gave her some advice on to confess her crush on Mark before it is too late. Samantha is played by Shadia Simmons.
[edit] Kat Adams
Kathryn "Kat" Adams is the new lead girl in Season 2. She is a new classmate in Mark and Chuck's homeroom class and has an attitude problem early in the series. She is from an unnamed big city and wishes to return to it. She gets used to living in Conestoga Hills and soon becomes Mark's third girlfriend after having a conversation with Samantha. Kat becomes editor of the school newspaper and rivals with Heather. She grows very suspicious of the Carnival of Doom and discovers the truth of Ace Lightning. She is a skilled basketball player. She has (or possibly just walks) a dog named Julie who mysteriously is captured by a pair of dogcatchers in Episode 38. Kat is played by Ashley Leggat.
She has been called a Canon Sue.
[edit] Pete
Pete (Peter) is Mark's friend from England. He is the first after Mark and Duff Kent to discover Ace Lightning's existence, although at first he doesn't believe Mark. Pete realises otherwise and eventually comes to visit Mark one time. However, Mark gets jealous of Pete as he impresses everyone, even Mr. Cheseborough. Pete is kidnapped by Lord Fear, but rescued by Mark. He decided he was not ready to meet Ace or the other Lightning Knights after watching a brutal battle between Random Virus and Anvil. Pete appears several times in Season 2. Pete is played by Devon Anderson.
[edit] Heather Hoffs
Heather is Samantha's best friend. She is an ambitious overachiever a year young for her grade; her extracurricular activities include swimming, karate, cheerleading, the school newspaper, and basketball. She gains a crush on Mark early on in the series and when he and Samantha break up, she makes her move. She flirts with Mark until they become a couple, which angers Samantha. Heather, fed up with being stood up so many times, breaks up with Mark and unexpectedly ends up dating Brett, as they both share a passion for Jackie Chan. Heather's behaviour turns sour in the second series, becoming a bratty, selfish, arrogant and hot-headed girl. She appears to be obsessed with making Mark's life miserable. In the end, Brett leaves Heather and she receives a face full of snot from Pigface. Heather is played by Petra Wildgoose.
[edit] Brett Ramirez
Brett is Samantha's old boyfriend. He was dating her when Mark first appeared on the scene but split up during the events of episode six. However, he stayed good friends with Samantha and Mark, acting a shoulder for Samantha to cry on when she and Mark have troubles. Brett begins dating Samantha again when she breaks up with Mark, but is still friends with Mark. Brett is on the school's football team with Mark, Chuck and Wayne, and participates in the big match against the school's old rivals. Ultimately, Brett starts dating Heather throughout season two, but is treated like dirt but he eventually dumps her, tired of Heather treating him and Mark like nothing. Brett is played by Brandon Carrera.
[edit] Wayne Fisgus
Wayne is the head bully at the school Mark and Chuck go to, and is constantly bullying Chuck during the first series. He is generally a coward in reality and is terrified of Lord Fear, who he calls the Boneman. Wayne has a cousin called Jessica who dates Chuck. Jessica revealed that Wayne picked his nose when he was young, his mother calling him "Boogerbox". In Season 2, Wayne now has a challenge at beating up Chuck, as he has matured and stands up to him. Wayne is caught in Mark's crazy driving test, fleeing from Lord Fear as he rides the Doom Wagon. Wayne is last seen getting into trouble for supposedly wrecking Mr. Cheseborough science lab when it was actually Mark trying to defeat Rotgut. Makr revealed he was the culprit and Wayne was released an innocent boy. Wayne is played by Jordan Hughes.
[edit] Mr. Horace Cheseborough
Mr. Cheseborough is a grumpy, old science teacher at Conestoga Hills Middle School (later Conestoga Hills High School). He has a disliking for children but loves himself. At first he is a stern and disliking character, but when he is kidnapped by Lord Fear and replaced with Lady Illusion, he becomes a funny character, believing Lord Fear and his gang to be aliens. He is soon released and returns to his grumpy ways, trying to forget his experience. However, he is haunted by what remains of his memories during his capture, as Dirty Rat tried to erase them using hypnosis. Mr. Cheseborough has an encounter with Googler, and Lady Illusion diguised as Mark throughout the first series. He becomes the school's principal in Episode 25, installing cameras everywhere and changing the rules of the school greatly. He changes them back in return for Mark to protect him from the aliens. In Episode 26, Mr. Cheseborough reveals he adores Mrs. Kutcher's cookies and they become an item briefly.
Mr. Cheseborough returns in Season 2 as Mark and Chuck's homeroom teacher and science teacher. He still has his fear of aliens, but tries to hide it. Cheseborough doesn't cross paths again with Lord Fear until the evil villain asks him for his help to defeat Ace Lightning. Lord Fear tricks Cheseborough into believing he and his minions are good while the Lightning Knights are evil. Cheseborough creates a special formula which can drain Ace of his powers but upgrade the villains. Mark informs Cheseborough that Lord Fear is using him, so Cheseborough abandons his deal with Lord Fear. Kilobyte sends Pigface and Dirty Rat to kidnap Cheseborough but he escapes. He is later captured by Kilobyte and dragged to the carnival where he is imprisoned in the game, but quickly released by Chuck. Cheseborough "warns" the human race that the aliens are invading, but causes mayhem in the carnival. He is considered a madman by the police, and is now on the run. In Season 3, he was going to live with Lord Fear and Dirty Rat, while Lord Fear tried to use Cheseborough's science to bring his minions back from the game without the Amulet. He is played by R.D. Reid.
[edit] Duff Kent
Duff Kent is an owner of the Kent Bros. Carnival A.K.A. The Carnival of Doom. Duff is a moustached man who is losing his hair and is a little obese. He is known for his constant complaining to Lord Fear and wearing several different hats. Duff lives in a trailer in the carnival and drives an ice cream truck. He works part-time at the carnival and part-time as selling ice cream. He believes the video game characters are cartoon characters. Duff made his debut in Episode 1 where he was bullied into hiring Lord Fear and his gang as employees. However, Lord Fear soon twisted this so now that Duff worked for him. Duff was treated like dirt by Lord Fear, but became good friends with Dirty Rat. He got along also with Pigface, Googler and Rotgut. Duff went to Ace for help in Episode 8, but claimed he tried to get Ace's piece of the Amulet when confronted by Lord Fear.
Duff tried to sponsor his carnival as a family friendly carnival, using Dirty Rat to manipulate his puppet toy, Mr. Huckleberry. It didn't work out. Duff then went to a psychiatrist with Mr. Huckleberry for company to berate how much he loathed working for Lord Fear, but generally didn't get good help. Duff then betrayed Lord Fear in the last episode of Season 1 by running away but then returning to get his carnival back, nearly running over Lord Fear in the process. For three months, life was peaceful for Duff until Lord Fear and his minions returned. Lord Fear adored Duff's new golf course. Duff was a bit more appreciated then before, but Lord Fear still disliked him. Kilobyte arrived and seemed to not mind Duff's presence. Duff helped Lord Fear convince Mr. Cheseborough that he was a good alien and introduced Lord Fear to television. Duff was last seen blocking Mark and others from entering a particular part of the carnival in the last episode, because Kat, Random Virus and Sparx were imprisoned in the back. It is presumed in Season 3 he would have be in charge again of his fun fair. He is played by Phillip Williams.
[edit] Simon and Fiona Hollander
Simon and Fiona are Mark's loving British parents who moved to America with their son. They moved into the old Andersons house next to Samantha's home. Simon is 45 and likes all the new gadgets he can use. Fiona is 42 and likes all things British. Although strict in some ways, they deeply love and care for Mark.
Simon likes America greatly and is usually seen with some new gadget like a leaf blower or a ride-on lawn mower. He tends to annoy Fiona when using these, and they usually argue. One of Simon's greatets moments is in Episode 2 when he trashes Fiona's beloved flowers and washing. He is a man that dislikes being downgraded as seen in two episodes. He likes camping and goes on a camping trip with Mark, Chuck and Brett to the forest where he is generally picked on by Wayne's father. However, he proves he is braver than him when he fends of Dirty Rat with a frying pan (mistakening him for a vulture). Simon was hired as an accountant by Texas businessman Mr. Ratburn. Simon is criticized several times by Ratburn for not disciplining his son enough, but Simon stands up to him and is hired for his courage and beliefs.
Fiona is a worrying mother and adores garden gnomes. She likes to have some remembrances of England so she cooks up mainly British food like crumpets and kippers. She cares for her family a lot and is often the one that does the housework. She also has a skill in decorating, as seen when she redecorates Mark's room. Fiona gets an unseen job in real estate. They are played by Ned Vukovic and Susan Danford.
[edit] Nettie Kutcher
Mrs. Kutcher was a recurring character who appeared in Season 1. She was the cook of Conestoga Hills Middle School. She greatly appreciated Chuck when he was in the school as he was the only student who generally liked her meals, which everyone considered to be disgusting. Mrs. Kutcher has made several special foods for Chuck including cakes shaped like a brain and UFO. Mrs. Kutcher can freak out a lot when frightened and throw food about in a comical way. Mrs. Kutcher last appeared in Episode 26 where she learnt Mr. Cheseborough adored her cookies and they briefly became a couple. She did not appear in Season 2, probably because she didn't switch schools like Chuck and Mr. Cheseborough. She is played by Diane Douglass.
[edit] Coach
Coach was the gym teacher of Conestoga Hills Middle School and taught the football lessons to such students like Mark, Chuck, Wayne and Brett. Coach was a friendly but hard-working guy who pushed his players to the limit. He helped them win a football match against the school's football rivals. He revealed he was an ALF (Ace Lightning Fan) and was present at Chuck's fanclub meeting and the battle between Ace and Lord Fear. He was last seen in Episode 23. He is played by David Huband.
[edit] Ashley Hollander
Ashley is Mark's younger cousin, and knows of Ace and the others. Ashley appeared in Episode 5 where she met Ace, mistakening him for the "Radioactive Guy". Ashley promised to Mark she would keep her knowledge of Ace a secret. Ashley returned to watch horror films with Mark and Chuck, but when Lord Fear and his gang invaded the house, Ashley fled upstairs with Chuck only to be surprised by Staff Head who she mistook for the Tooth Fairy. Ashley appeared in Season 2. Her hamster Chika was rescued by Ace from going into orbit, and then helped free Chuck and Sparx from the video game. She is played by Kayla Perlmutter.
[edit] Jessica Fisgus
Jessica is Wayne's cousin and Chuck's girlfriend. Jessica had previously been speaking to Chuck on the fanclub messageboard of Ace Lightning in the show before meeting face to face at Chuck's fanclub meeting. Chuck instantly fell head over heels in love when he met Jessica and even made a deal with Wayne that he would not tell a deep secret about the bully in return that he could be friends with Jessica. Jessica returned in the last episode of Season 1 to be Chuck's date. The two became a couple and dated over the course of Season 2, Jessica calling Chuck "Chucky Wucky". Jessica tried to help Rick download his data onto the school computers to stop Kilobyte, but Rick freaked out when his creation appeared and fled. Jessica is played by Megan Park.
[edit] Felicity Fury
Felicity Fury was one of the disguises Lady Illusion used to get into Mark's house, disguising herself as a pretty housekeeper who Mark briefly had a crush on. Mark soon learnt she was Lady Illusion when she framed him for trashing one of Fiona's vases when it was actually her looking for a piece of the Amulet. Felicity was never seen again after Ace knew who she was. She was played by Brooke D'Orsay.
[edit] The Master Programmer
Rick Hubble is the Master Programmer, the third primary villain and generally the creator of Ace Lightning, the other characters and the Sixth Dimension. He debuted in Season 2 as a general computer store owner, but was actually controlling Kilobyte in his office - also known as the Fortress of Solitude where only he was allowed in. Rick created Kilobyte and Fred.
[edit] Prior to becoming the Master Programmer
Rick worked in the company that made the Ace Lightning video game and somehow designed and produced a programme that could bring the Ace Lightning characters to life. However, he never got a chance to test it as his employers ridiculed, mocked and fired him from his job. Rick believed he could have been the next Bill Gates with his programme, so before he left his job he inserted his programme into one of the games - which was Mark's. All he needed to do was wait for a blast of energy to activate the programme and prove his genius. His wish came true when a lightning bolt struck Mark's house and Ace, Lord Fear and his minions came too life.
[edit] The Master Programmer
Although Rick's existence was not known in Season 1, he was around. He hid in his computer store, watching the events of the show happen using special computer equipment but Lord Fear was destroyed. So Rick created Kilobyte and Fred to carry out his plan for world domination, and even hired Chuck but only so he could keep an eye on him. Rick also upgraded some of the characters and reprogrammed Lady Illusion to get her back on Lord Fear's side, but it still didn't work. Mark and Chuck found out about Rick's scheme but when a power outage occurred, Rick lost control of Kilobyte and was later imprisoned in the game alongside his mad creation. In the cancelled Season 3, Rick was to escape the game but half-human, half-animated. He was played by Brett Heard.
