Mailsmith is an email client originally released in 1998 and now for Mac OS X. It is made by Bare Bones Software.

Originally made available May 4, 1998, Mailsmith included relatively advanced searching tools, such as grep pattern matching and fuzzy searching. Mailsmith also offered mail compose functionality similar to BBEdit, including support for BBEdit plugins.

Perhaps Mailsmith's greatests strength is its searching functions. Since its initial release, continued improvements to Apple Computer's Mail have gradually added some of this functionality. In Mac OS X v10.4 in particular, Spotlight greatly improved Mail's search functionality. In support for filtering, automation, and text manipulation, however, Mailsmith continues to surpass any other mail client available for the Macintosh.

The latest version, Mailsmith 2.1.5, was released March 9, 2005.
