Mai Chen

Mai Chen (b. Taiwan, 1964) is a prominent constitutional lawyer in Wellington, New Zealand. She is a founding partner of the law firm Chen & Palmer, alongside former New Zealand Prime Minister Sir Geoffrey Palmer.

She was a student of Otago Girls' High School, where she became a head girl. She obtained her law degree with first class honours from Otago University and got her Masters degree from Harvard University. From there, she went to work at the United Nations' International Labour Office in Geneva. Returning to New Zealand, she became Victoria University's youngest senior law lecturer before leaving for law firm Russell McVeagh. She left them after a year and mortgaged her house for cash to set up Chen Palmer with former Prime Minister Sir Geoffrey Palmer in 1994. She is married to John Sinclair with one son.
