Mahmud Shaltut

Shaykh Mahmud Shaltut (1893-1963) was an Egyptian Islamic scholar. He was the shaykh or grand imam, i.e. the leader, of Al-Azhar University in Egypt from 1958 to 1963. He is known for introducing the teaching of the fiqh (jurisprudence) of Zaydi and Twelver Shi'a Islam to the university alongside the fiqh of the four Sunni madhhabs (traditions of jurisprudence).
