Maharishi University of Management

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maharishi University of Management (M.U.M.), formerly known as Maharishi International University, is located in Fairfield, Iowa, United States. It was founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of the Transcendental Meditation movement. Its campus is located on the grounds of the now-defunct Parsons College.

It is an accredited university with a consciousness-based education offering degree programs in the arts, sciences, business, and humanities.

One unique component of the college is that it runs on the block system in which the students take one course at time, for periods of four weeks before taking another course.[1]

Maharishi University of Management is accredited through the Ph.D. level by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.[2]

The Maharishi University of Management has cited its number-two ranking among Midwestern universities for "Highest Proportion of Classes Under 20[3]." This claim doesn't disclose that the education guide has consistently given MUM the lowest "peer assessment" score among Midwest universities. A recent guide shows MUM received a rating of 1.5 out of a possible 5, the lowest rating of Midwestern colleges and universities in the opinion of educators who were surveyed[citation needed].

Maharishi University of Management cites the results of the ACT survey of students and the National Survey of Student Engagement, which show that students and alumni rank MUM far higher than the national average.[citation needed]
