Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery

Mahamevnawa is an organization of monasteries established for the sake of spiritual development of human beings through the teachings of the Sakyamuni Buddha. It has 18 more monastries for meditation through out the Sri Lanka's rural and some in urban areas. The chief buddhist monk incharge of these monasteries is Venerable Kiribathgoda Gnananada thero is born to a Roman Catholic family converted to be a buddhist monk. Venerable Kiribathgoda Gnananada Thero learnt buddhism from India and came to Sri Lanka and teaching buddhism to local and international community.

[edit] Practice of Meditation

According to Lord Buddha's teachings that birth as a human being is, indeed, a very rare opportunity. Fortunate people who achieve that rare oppertunity should develop their minds to reach the ultimate goal of Nibbana. So the Mahamevnawa monsatery is teaching the people how to practice meditation to reach the Nibbana.

The meditation is based on the Lord Buddha’s doctrine of the Four Noble Truths and this world to make known and explain the four Noble Truths.

1. suffering (Dukkha Arya Satya) - It incorporates suffering, both mental and physical, dissatisfaction, unpleasant, unsatisfactory and many others.

2. Origin of Suffering (Dukkha Samudaya Arya Satya)

3. Cessation of Suffering (Dukkha Nirodha Arya Satya)

4. Noble Eightfold Path (Marga Arya Satya)
