Mah (Broadway)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mah is a common inside joke in musical theater on Broadway. It is difficult for actors to find the correct pitch for weird notes that start with a vowel. (Example: 'Ah Gentlemen' from Jesus Christ Superstar). Good actors will place a consonant in front of the vowel, making it easier to find the pitch. For example, it is much easier to say 'Mah Gentlemen' than it is to say 'Ah Gentlemen.'
