[edit] broken link on geo tool
Just wanted to mention that your geo tool thingy (http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/geo/geohack.php?params=46_01_N_77_27_W_ ) has a broken link. On the this is one of mangus' toys... banner, the mangus toys links to a 404 (http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/geo/index.html ). (you proabally meant to link to http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/index.html ). user:Bawolff 22:30, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Commons sum-it-up
Hi Magnus,
[edit] Dupes tool thumbnails
Hi! Great work on the dupes tool. It takes quite a while to load the full pictures used as thumbnails though. Would it be possible to have an actual thumbnail file as a thumbnail, instead of the original big file? --Para 16:50, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm on vacation right now, with little net access. I'll get around to it in a week or so. --Magnus Manske 08:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Aminoacids
Hi Magnus. There has been some dicussing about the accuracy of Image:Amino acids 2.png as if the NH3 would need to be NH2 (amino). Can you check? Platonides 11:39, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind. It has been already cleared. Platonides 20:42, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bad old ones.
Hi Magnus.
- Since a few days ago bad old ones tool is not working to delete images at commons. For example: this case gives "no images", but the category has many images.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Vasco-da-gama.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Vasco-da-gama.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Conscious 11:21, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] CommonsHelper and nowiki tags
Hello Magnus,
I am a great fan of the CommonsHelper tool, thanks for this ! I am a bit suprised that you include "nowiki" tags around the "other version" field, as the links to the original user page and the "span class=comment" do not work ; I have to remove them every time. COuld you please fix this (or explain me the purpose of the nowiki's) ?
Thanks, Korrigan 19:11, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A few bugs
Hi Magnus, I'm playing with your toys ;) and have discovered a few bugs:
- Missing images doesn't find missing image for the article de:Schienenwolf.
- ISBN2Wiki has a PHP error for 86-7558-431-8
Otherwise, they're good and very useful. Why GeoHack isn't a special page like Special:Booksource? Somebody dislikes the idea or you simply haven't got the time to do it? Nikola 11:17, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- The ISBN tool doesn't report the error now, but it still works strange. It reports: Istina o RacÌŒku / Ilija SimicÌ. which should be Istina o Račku / Ilija Simić.. It seems that one of its sources is in UTF-8 which the tool interprets as ISO-8859-1. Also, Ilija is the author of the book, though it might be a mistake in the source. Also, there is suspicious ??? at the beginning of the line.
- Maybe it would be helpful if the tool would, alongside the wikicode, report where it found the data for it. Then people could look it and give you feedback.
- I got the idea for the special page while looking at the Booksource and noticing how simple it is :) Nikola 15:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Map sources page rendering
Opera 8.54 under Win98SE. These http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/geo/geohack.php?params=51_34_34_N_0_29_19_E_ pages are rendered for me with a slice on the left chopped off (no margin with the Earth image, heading starts at "ap sources/GeoHack"). There may be some float/margin conflict. Femto 11:26, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- It was fine on Mozilla, then someone told me the margin is too large on IE. Now that it works on both IE and Mozilla, Opera doesn't show it right. Talk about web standards. I'll look into it.--Magnus Manske 12:59, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- I downloaded Opera 9.02, and it looks fine. So, marked as WONTFIX;-) Upgrade your browser, it's free. --Magnus Manske 13:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Talk about web standards. What web standards? I think the whole problem is that the page doesn't tell which! Include a doctype and it works under Opera 8.54 too. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
Besides, the <link> element shouldn't get a closing slash, and there's a typo "vertial-align". You're welcome, but I usually don't bother with .0x versions (they call these changes 8.54->9 a major release?) Nah, I still won't upgrade. Not that you'd be the first one to tell me :D Femto 16:46, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the doctype; I always thought there was something I forgot ;-) All should be fixed now. --Magnus Manske 19:33, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ordnance Survey
The geohack section heading "United Kingdom" should be changed to "Great Britain": Northern Ireland uses the Irish national grid reference system so the GB Ordnance Survey grid references generated for places in NI are spurious. I know nothing about cartography, but I wonder whether the Irish system could easily be added to geohack using the parameters at Irish national grid reference system#Summary parameters of the Irish National Grid coordinate system:. The Get-a-map site can handle Irish references (even Repulic of Ireland) as well as British ones, so it would be useful. jnestorius(talk) 02:13, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Push for commons
Hi, in "Push for commons" the Swedish license tag {{Frianvändning}} is tagged as "no verificable good license" so PfC cannot be used for such images. {{Frianvändning}} is in fact equivalent to {{Attribution}}. Don't know if this is a setting which needs to be changed in PfC or in the {{Frianvändning}}-template. Cheers /Lokal_Profil 22:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Also noticed that the {{Logo}}-template is marked as a disallowed template (red shading) when it should be marked as a Fair Use template (yellow shading). Many thanks again. /Lokal_Profil 19:31, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] CommonsHelper and fr.wikipedia
Hi Magnus,
I have seen you just updated CommonsHelper : nice ! Would it be possible to "ignore" certain templates which are not license templates, but which are included in each license template on fr.wikipedia ? Currentley they appear each time in the "license" section or in comments. Those templates are
- Template:!
- Template:Documentation modèle
- Template:Méta bandeau licence
- Template:Pour Commons
- Template:Purger le cache
Thank you ! le Korrigan bla 23:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] CommonsHelper and PD tag refused
dear Magnus, i was using your tool to upload files from the cs wikipedia to my great satisfaction. I don' know if it is a bug or on purpose but your tool (or something else) refuses to upload the picture when the licence is {{PD-CzechGov}}. It IS public domain so why block upload? :-( can you help? --Diligent (same name on Commons)
- wonderful - it works! thanks a lot for your help. Diligent
[edit] ommochromes
hi magnus,
in Ommochrome you wrote the eye color is determined by the ommochromes. I inserted the info that spiders use them too, but was not sure where the eye color info belongs to. does it specifically refer to the eyes of cephalopodes? then i would have to change the sentence again, because this is not the case for spiders. cheers --Sarefo 06:43, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Raymond Firth
Hi Magnus - not sure if it's on your watchlist or not, but thought you might like to know that I've expanded the page on Raymond Firth that you started. Jasper33 11:16, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

- Hi again, and thanks for your nice comments. I've just now added an infobox to Raymond, and then saw your talk note to me about the Persondata template. That'll teach me not to read my new messages first! I didn't see the Persondata stuff on the article, and being a newbie I don't know how to make it appear (could only do the infobox 'cos I cut and pasted one from another article...) Jasper33 08:49, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Umm, err, how do I say this? All that reads like Double Dutch to me, Magnus. I'm afraid I've absolutely no idea what 'persondata' is, or a 'monobook.css' file, or 'hard reload'. You're dealing with a complete and total technophobe here. I'm trying to learn, but it's painfully slow. Bear with me... :) Jasper33 13:29, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

- Cheers Magnus - that's great. Thanks for your patience and your help! Jasper33 13:53, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
