Magna Science Adventure Centre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Magna Science Adventure Centre is an educational visitor attraction, primarily appealing to children. It is located in a disused steel mill in the Templeborough district of Rotherham. The site is formly home to the Steel, Peach & Tozer steel works.
The principal exhibits are divided into six pavilions, Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Play and Power (closed). There is also a large outdoor water play area within the Play Pavillion.
The site is often used for staging events, conferences and gigs in a spectacular setting.
The Magna Science Adventure Centre won the 2001 Royal Institute of British Architects(RIBA) Stirling Prize for its designers Wilkinson Eyre Architects innovative use of space in the old steelworks. Visitors are often as impressed by the building itself as the attractions contained within it.
