Magician Lord is a side-scrolling platform game developed by SNK and released in 1990. It was a launch title for both the Neo-Geo MVS (arcade) and AES (home) systems, and was one of the pack-in games for the Neo-Geo AES.

[edit] Storyline

The player controls the wixard Elta, who must save his homeland from an evil threat. The eight books of wisdom have been stolen by the God of Destruction, Az Atorze, and recovering them is the only way to restore peace.

[edit] Gameplay

Elta must progress through eight levels, each containing a guardian (sub-boss) and a boss, before reaching the final confrontation with Az Atorze. Gameplay is similar to that of a standard side-scrolling platformer, with the added twist of transformations that offer the wizard different attacks and abilities. When he has not been transformed, Elta's primary form of attack is a fast-moving projectile that he can shoot in four directions (up, down, left, and right).

[edit] Forms

These are the forms that Elta can assume by picking up various colored orbs:

  • Dragon Warrior: The Dragon Warrior attacks by breathing a stream of fire. It is a continuous but short-range attack.
  • Waterman: Waterman uses a water attack that travels along the ground.
  • Poseidon: Poseidon utilizes a pillar of water that rises from the ground.
  • Shinobi: Shinobi attacks with a slow moving fireball and has increased agility and movement.
  • Samurai: The Samurai has a medium-range sword strike that can attack multiple enemies and cut through some otherwise impenetrable enemy defenses.
  • Raijin: Raijin uses an elecric shock which is a very short-range attack that hits in all directions, and has improved jumping.
