[edit] History

The Magellan Guides are a recently-conceived travel guidebook series with a focus on social consciousness and cooperation. Starting in October of 2006, the Magellan Guides include guides to Britain, France, and Italy. The Magellan Guides, however, claim that they will soon expand to include all of Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, and several destinations in North America.

The Magellan Guides started publishing electronic guides in October 2006 beginning with the Magellan e-Guides to Britain, France, and Italy. Distributed through the web, the e-Guides allow the users to purchase a subscription to access the guides instead of purchasing at a retail outlet.

Distributed in PDF format, the guides are competitors with general reference travel guides including the well-known Frommers, Fodors, Lonely Planet, and Rough Guides. The Magellan Guides base a large proportion of their guide content on historically and culturally relevant information as opposed to purely on a socioeconomic demographic. The guides list recommended accommodations, dining, nightlife, and sights & attractions but also include a crash-course on the history and culture of each destination.

The Magellan Guides was founded on a socially-conscious platform and donates a portion of all revenue to charitable organizations. Presently, the “Featured Charity” as specified by the Magellan Guides is UNICEF.

[edit] Guidebook Series
