Magaluf is a popular holiday resort on the island of Mallorca which is one of the Balearic Islands. Magaluf is in the municipality of Calvià and is situated on the south coast, sandwiched between Cala Vinyes and Palma nova.

The main airport of Mallorca is approximately 15 miles (24 km) away from Magaluf.

[edit] The Resort

The majority of Magaluf's hotels are on the outskirts of the resort and in neighbouring Palma Nova. Magaluf has a sandy beach which gets very busy during the summer months and there are also a number of water parks. There is an abundance of shops, restaurants and cafes as well as nightlife in the area. The resort is very much orientated around British tourists and caters for both young parties as well as families. July and August are the months that attract younger tourists.

There are many bars and nightclubs in Magaluf and many well-known DJs have played at the resort including Tim Westwood and Judge Jules. Nightlife in Magaluf is centred around the Punta Ballena strip.

BCM is the main nightclub in the resort and is located on the Avenida S'Olivera. The club comprises of two floors, the lower of which regularly puts on foam and popcorn parties. The entry fee to the club usually includes all drinks inside the venue. There are many smaller clubs in Magaluf including Bora Bora Beach Club, Bananas, Boomerang, Tokio Joes, Poco Loco, Car Wash.

On the Avenida Strip, bar reps offer drinks vouchers to encourage people to enter their sponsoring bar. If they are wearing fluorescent waistcoasts they are legally authorised by Calvia Council.

The term "Shagaluf" was coined to describe the wild partying by tourists in Magaluf.

Besides bars and nightclubs, there are two water parks, a bungee rocket, go kart racing, horseback riding and various water entertainment.
