Mael Mórdha

Mael Mórdha is a Gaelic Doom Metal band from Ireland.
Formed in January 1998 by Roibéard Ó Bogail, Mael Mórdha (pronounced MAIL MOOR-AH) have blended Doom Metal and Gaelic Irish laments (the slower elements of Irish Folk Music) to create Gaelic Doom Metal.
The band have recorded four E.P.s, The Path to Insanity (Deasmumhan 1999),The Inferno Spreads (Deasmumhan 2000), Caoineadh na nGael (Self-Released 2002), Cluain Tarbh E.P. (Unreleased 2003).
On the strength of the band’s last two E.P.s the band was signed to Dutch label Karmageddon Media who released the band’s debut album, Cluain Tarbh on the 12th of September 2005. An alternative recording of the album title track was released on a 7 inch vinyl limited edition through Sentinel Records in the winter of 2005.
Due to severe internal problems within Karmageddon and a lack of availability of the album, the band left the label and signed to Grau Records in Germany in Februaury 2006.
Mael Mórdha’s debut album release through Grau Records was recorded at the end of April/start of May 2006. Entitled Gealtacht Mael Mórdha it is due for release in March 2007.
Well known in the Irish Metal scene, the band have played the Abbeyleix Metalfest, The Day Of Darkness (twice), as well as Bloodstock Metal festival (England). Controversally, the band entered the Irish leg of the Eurovision Song Contest in late 2004 with the aim of entering the finals held in Kiev (Ukraine) in 2005.
