[edit] Imitation?
Can someone please enlighten me as to how we got to labeling Cohen's performance as an imitation of Robin Williams? Do we have a source on this? It really just seems like speculation. --Psotau 22:24, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Point Is...?
Doesn't anyone see this is pointless? Oh man have you seen- they have an entry on meep! and its serious!!! man what is the world coming to...
And your point is...? -- Jason Palpatine 04:38, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Plot, Characters And Credits
Needs to have the plot up front and integrate the character info into it. Also we surely don't need a complete credits list - we ought to leave that kind of thing to IMDB. Lee M 18:59, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
If movie/TV references are listed, could they be explained? I'll add Ice Age (Alex bumps/slides downhill just like Scrat does)
BTW, Shrek is actually mentioned in the movie. (When Alex is looking for his friends)
[edit] Delete Note
Somebody has deleted all but the bare bones of this article, starting with my story synopsis. It's true that the article was too long, but now it's too short. I'm putting the story section back up and we'll see what happens next. Lee M 13:13, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] References
Should someone mention that the movie includes loads of stuff from other places (eg. Wilson from Cast Away, the National Geographic theme music ...)
[edit] More References
As mentioned above, the movie is full of references. It would be a good thing to integrate them into the main page.
- Sequence of steaks falling all around Alex ==> falling rose petals from American Beauty.
- Ship hijacking, ship running ashore ==> Speed 2: Cruise control
- Wilson from Cast away (the stuffed soccer ball)
- Miss Liberty from Planet of the Apes
[edit] "Stuff"
There was a bunch of stuff deleted around 12:00, July 8, 2005 by 203.45.144.223. Most of it quite useless, belonging to IMDB, but e.g. the movie references could be used - if explained. So here is the list as of date above:
Movie and television references:
- American Beauty
- Animal Planet
- Born Free
- Cast Away
- Chariots of Fire
- The Lion King
- Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom
- Planet of the Apes (1968 movie)
- Saturday Night Fever
- Tarzan
- To Serve Man
- National Geographic
- Ice Age
- Shrek
I think it would really be nice to have these on the page, but it only makes sense with some references to where they appear. I might just watch the movie again sometime...
[edit] Bloated
The sections on Pop Culture References and Trivia are too long. I'm not sure how to fix this, but it needs to be fixed.
[edit] Reference?
Somebody listed in the article:
Perhaps the one who entered it could explain the reference -- I saw nothing in the film that could relate to that movie. -- Jason Palpatine 22:20, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The Animals Made a Mistake...
Being a San Diegan myself, I noticed the animals' mistake...which might be intented. They say that the San Diego Zoo has wide open exhibits-they're actually describing the San Diego Wild Animal Park, a very close relative to the Zoo. And Shamu...he's from Seaworld, not the Zoo. Of course, Alex doesn't realize that..
Sea World and the San Diego Wild Animal Park are in the same city -- which would have been his point. -- Jason Palpatine 23:07, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mort
What kind of animal is Mort, the "mouse lemur"? ~~helix84 13:37, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
He is a species of giant mouse lemur known as Mirza zaza, -- scientific name Microcebus lehilahytsara. It has a long bushy tail and is about the size of a grey squirrel.
For information, go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4135670.stm. Jason Palpatine 23:05, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. Would you add this info into the article? How did you find out anyway? Now I tried to google on 'madagascar "Mirza zaza" Mort' but nothing relevant turned up. Seems it's not too widely known. Are you sure about it in connection with the character of Mort the Lemur or you just found a "mouse lemur"? ~~helix84 13:23, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- From the article: Microcebus lehilahytsara, or Goodman's mouse lemur, lives in eastern Madagascar's rainforest. It is little bigger than a mouse, with short, rounded ears and a white stripe on its nose. " Mort fits the description to a T. I looked it up without using his name -- it missleads the search-engine. You see, Mort is the title of a Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett and also the name of its main character. -- Jason Palpatine 15:10, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Would you please look up the other lemurs, too and add them to the article? Existing source identifying them is preffered. Thanks. ~~helix84 18:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question about the Animals' Voices
I'd like to ask if or if not the humans in the movie Madagascar can actually hear the animals when they attempt to talk to them; because it may seem like a goof that the officer on horseback in the movie can't hear his horse giving directions to Marty the Zebra! --195.229.241.180 13:09, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
No -- I'm afraid they're TOO intelegent to hear anything other than noise. The officer did not make out anything of the conversation that his horse was having with the Marty the Zebra! -- Jason Palpatine 21:51, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Don't forget the part when Alex makes an attempt to find Marty by calling humans. Alex is speaking real words, but when they put the view on the humans there are lion roars coming out of the reciever.
[edit] Penguins and Alex
The penguins were not stowed away on board. (When using stowed as 'To hide oneself aboard a conveyance in order to obtain free transportation.') I reworded it to show that they were also being shipped to Kenya (why penguins would be shipped to Kenya is beyond me but after viewing the film again, the box that the penguins are in says Penguins and has a shipping lable to the wildlife preserve in Kenya). Also Alex is concerned about himself rather than the group when facing the celebrity status of Shamu. --ImmortalGoddezz 22:26, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the rewrite, I was wondering about that myself. It seems they shipped the ENTIRE zoo.
- As for Alex, self interest is not a crime. -- Jason Palpatine 22:23, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Penguins dont live in Kenya, I know that. Mabye the people were going to air or land ship them from there...DPG 14:04, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Dpenguinman

[edit] Worst films of 2005 by... who?
"Madagascar is considered one of the worst films of 2005 according to the International Ratings of Filming Trust (IRFT)."
This seems a little out-of-nowhere; I've done searches on this 'IRFT' and got no results, or anything even resembling them... even the name sounds like it's not resembling any real organization. Is it really notable at all?

[edit] Foosa or fossa?
Since the spelling of this word keeps getting changed between the actual animal (fossa) and the spelling used in the movie (foosa), let's just make a template. That way, when someone wants to change the spelling, they'll only have to change it in the template and they'll get all of the wording in one fell swoop. Any objections? Val42 05:08, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
No, the actual animal is "fossa" as well. The movie simply pronounces the word as "foosa", but I don't think this is correct. Dora Nichov 04:33, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
In the soundtrack book it says foosa and as long as it pertains to the subject I would keep it that way. DPM 01:32, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
I know they SAY foosa, but it's NOT correct! Also, the TRUE spelling is fossa, so there! Dora Nichov 08:27, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Since the movie pronounces it "foosa" I think it would probably be more sensible to pronounce it "foosa"; even if it is incorrect enlish. eskimospy(talk) 01:19, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] King Julian
While tagging some articles I found King Julian. As that article is linkless, and it doesn't seem to be notable to have its own article, I suggest merging any valuable content here. Someone who is in touch with this article and knows the importance of the character should be able to decide if that article has something to offer that has not been said here. Once merged, or if there is nothing to merge, convert it to a redirect to this article. Thanks! -- ReyBrujo 17:53, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Redirect. I agree that it's not worth its own article. --Elonka 23:55, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect — Put information in this article. Val42 04:04, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Merge and you migth as well delete the King Julia article as well.--Bedford 13:22, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Merge I don't think there's anything substantial in this article that isn't in the main Madagascar one. There's really no point in having a separate King Julian article unless is says something other than character ID. If you have some sort of analysis of the character, fine, but if it's just a mere bio, it is not necessary. Kimwells 14:37, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Merge the article, definitely. There's no reason for it to have its own article. --Crazysunshine 04:09, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, given that there appears to be no opposition here, I put in some notes about the king in the separate article into this one, and then turned King Julian into a redirect. --Crazysunshine 04:14, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Song on the second trailer
The second trailer of the film has three songs on it, one is that Lu Vega song, I Like to Move It, and the other is some rock song I can't figure what it's called, the lyrics go,"I'm on a holiday hill all day." It sounds sort of newer. If you know, please tell me, it want it on my iPod. Imax80 21:26, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cargo cult?
is that really nessisary i don't thikn the lookalike after statue of liberty need to link to cargo cult, if you folks really feel the need for this odd link then by all means, i think it is out of left field and rather confusing.--Manwithbrisk 00:25, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WHAT?!
Madonna was considered for GLORIA? How weird is that?!
um ok...DPM 02:50, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Central Park Zoo
Is the zoo as depicted in the film accurate? Because it seems rather terrible (a zebra kept alone in a tiny enclosure, etc), but then it's only a film. 86.139.237.132 21:04, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion proposal
In the section "inaccuracies" most of the ideas (represented by bullets) are extremely obvious and also, this article is about a ""fiction"" movie so, I think it is best to either: a. delete this section b. delete all unneccasary information from this section c. scatter the bullets amongst the whole page. eskimospy(talk) 01:26, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
--Please post your feelings about the above proposal here. eskimospy(talk) 02:53, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can somebody fix this?
It's FOOSA, not Fossa. I don't know how to change headings. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Heatherfire (talk • contribs) 21:01, 5 December 2006 (UTC).
