Madeleine Wickham

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Madeleine Wickham (born 12 December 1969) is a bestselling British author. Educated at New College, Oxford, she worked as a financial journalist before turning to fiction. She is best know for the popular chick-lit books she has created under the pseudonym of Sophie Kinsella. Wickham resides in London with her husband. They have three young sons; Freddy, Hugo and Oscar. Her sister, Gemma Townley is also an author.

The Shopaholic series, her most popular books, focus on the misadventures of Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist who cannot manage her own finances. Indeed, Becky is constantly incurring credit card debt and getting into worse and worse scrapes.

"The Undomestic Goddess" tells the story of a female lawyer who becomes a domestic servant, and gradually questions her former way of life.

In May of 2006, Kaavya Viswanathan's book "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life" was discovered to have at least three striking similarities to Kinsella's "Can you Keep a Secret".

Her new novel, "Shopaholic & Baby", will be released on February 27, 2007.
