Ma Zhiyuan

Mă Zhìyuăn (馬致遠) (c.1270-1330) was born in Peking and considered to be the master poet and a celebrated zaju playwright of the Yuan Dynasty. Among his achievements is the development and popularizing of the new sanqu lyric form of poetry. Only seven of his plays survive.

Hangong qiu 漢宮秋[Autumn in the Han Palace] is considered his best play.

qiusi [Autumn thoughts] and Ye xingchuan [sailing at night] are representative poems.
