[edit] Automobile Department
The automobile technology has made a rapid advancement in the recent years and has entered a new era of hi-tech vehicles. The field of Automobile Engineering was initially catered to by professionals from conventional branches. The development was not such as to give rise to the need of specialized Automobile Engineers. However the growth in this field was rapid in the last two decades. This growth was both in terms of latest technology being used in automobiles and in industry. With the use of microchip and micro-processor based modules in automobiles, there has been a rapid advancement in this field and the field is revolutionized. The automobile of today is the result of accumulation of many years of pioneering research and development. In India, the Automobile field is in for a boom both in terms of technology and in size. Due to the liberalization policy a large number of MNC's have entered the Indian auto market and have either set up their production plants in India and the plans of many others are on the anvil. This led to the need of professionals specializing in this particular field of Automobile Engineering.
Thus, the branch of Automobile Engineering was introduced in this backdrop. Young professionals, who have the enthusiasm and passion for latest technology, are getting attracted to this field. The course curriculum is so designed so as to specialize the students in the field of Automobile Engineering and to cater to the ever‑growing need of the auto industry and the rapidly changing Automobile scenario. Practicals are designed so as to give the students complete exposure of the latest technology. A new laboratory namely Autotronics Laboratory is being developed, which consists of ultra‑modern learning aids. The department has well qualified teacher who are PG Degree holders in this field. The department had organized various industrial visits to the automobile manufacturing unit to get a firsthand experience of how the industry works. Our rapport with the industry is quite strong and the students learn a lot through this experience. We had organised a three‑day state level event "Auto motivation‑2002" which comprised of seminars, competitions and Question and Answer session with the industry people. The event was sponsored by Industries, such as Indian Oil Corp.. Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corp.. Ltd. and various organizations from the automobile field. The event provided a platform to the students to be exposed to the latest technological developments taking place in the automotive field as also a platform for industry‑institute interaction. The event was attended by luminaries form automobile industries. such as TELCO, Mahindra & Mahindra, etc. The department has also organized inter‑college technical paper presentation competition. Students from the department have participated in various co‑curricular activities at inter‑collegiate level and have won prizes in the events, such as Techfest in 1IT, Bombay and Robotantra. at RAIT, Mumbai.
Scope of Automobile Engineering The future is quite bright for Automobile Engineers. Large number of MNC's have either altered the Indian auto market or are on the verge of entering it due to the liberalization policy. Also, these is revolution in the field of automobiles in terms of technology. Automobile Engineers are required in R&D, Service Industry, Planning and Design.
Career opportunities in Automobile Engineering involves pursuing higher studies in India and abroad, such as M.E. / M.Tech. / M.S. in branches of Automobile Engineering, Computer, Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems, (in India and abroad), Automobile manufacturers/service centers/dealers, Sales and Service of automobiles in India and abroad, etc.
Heat Engines Laboratory, equipped with I.C. engines of different types. Vehicle Maintenance Laboratory, equipped with ultra‑modern automobile service and repair equipment. Vehicle Systems Laboratory, equipped with models and systems of automobiles. Autotronics Laboratory, equipped with electronic and software modules related to Automobile Engineering and other modern learning aids.
Results The result of the Department has been quite impressive with students taking first and second place in the University exams. During the past five years, the result has been consistently good, especially in the years 2000 and 2001, it was 100%.
Placement The placement position for the Automobile Engineering Department is very encouraging, with nearly all students being placed in the industry (except for those who opt for higher studies or business).
[edit] Electronics department
This department conceived in 1994 has some of the best results in the university. This department has shown a brilliant academic performance by its students bagging merit ranks(top 10) in the university over the years.
The total investment in this department is around 60 lakh rupees and is well-equipped with labs like Signal processing lab, robotics lab, communications lab, industrial electronics lab etc. The lecturers and professors with their valuable expertise have guided the students and helped in nurturing the departments to one of the best in Mumbai.
The students under this dept have been pursuing their projects and research at reputed organizations like the IIT, BARC, TIFR, VSNL, L&T, TCS, Global Telesystems etc. and have done remarkable achievements in their projects. There are a few in-house projects going too, viz on signal processing, robotics, PLCs etc. which are laudable. The students branch of the IEEE organizes 360 degrees which is the annual technical intercollegiate festival hosted by four engg colleges viz, RAIT, DJ Sanghvi, VESIT ,KJ Somaiya and MHSS CoE. The IEEE central (USA) has also been funding the electronics department on account of the departments continued efforts to progress technology and educating and awarding people of technology. Hardware maintenance workshops, paper presentations, guest lectures are regularly held by the IEEE students chapter of the MHSS CoE to bring about awareness of the various developments in technology. Industrial tours to places like Hyderabad and Bangalore are held to give industrial exposure to the students.
The professors of the department have also value added to the department by presenting technical papers at national level and international on robotics etc.The students of the dept. Most of the staff of this department are PGs while some are on their way to a doctorate. Ex-students of the dept are pursuing research in the US and other countries.
Students of this college have been recruited in prestigious organizations like L & T, Wipro, Infosys, Godrej and Boyce etc.The department has an overall reputation with its students bagging awards at IIT(Yantriki) and by the IEEE Mumbai chapter for various robotics competitions and paper presentations. Strangely though ,this dept has also been bagging awards for structural design competitions at the IIT(Last straw).Students from this department have represented the college on state and national level quizzing(Zenith college quiz, DD metro).Students of this dept have also been winning at various personality competitions.
