[edit] Family
His father is Michael T. Sherman, who was a Captain in the US Navy for over 26 years and, after tours in Vietnam and Desert Storm, served as the Liaison Officer to the entire news media. He was also the technical advisor on several films, such as "The Hunt For Red October" and "A Few Good Men".
[edit] Other works
Having worked in the motion pictures business since he was sixteen years old, he started as a production assistant on films such as "The Hunt For Red October" and "A Few Good Men," but quickly moved on to other on-set jobs to further his knowledge-base. Doing jobs like set design, prop building, craft services, wardrobe assistant, then finally moving up to second assistant director. A slow his LA during the strike of 1993, so Sherman turned his talents elsewhere and went to work at Walt Disney Computer Software as the head video game designer. There he worked on several different games including, "Gargoyle: The Eye of Odin" and "Donald Duck: Maui Mallard."
From there, Sherman turned his eye towards the up-and-coming digital technology and pursued a career in digital effects, starting at Dream Quest Images. After working free-lance for many years, he finally found a home at George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic. There he has enjoyed over nine years of artistic challenges on such flms as Saving Private Ryan (directed by Steven Spielberg), Wild Wild West (starring Will Smith and Kevin Kline) and the new Star Wars Tillogy. Recently, Sherman left ILM to concentrate on his comic writing, now doing several creator-owned projects for Image and freelancing for the other major comapines in the business.
He is also a published comic book writer. His short story "Entrenched" about the Rebel troops on the ground during the Imperial invasion of Hoth (beautifully illustrated by Industrial Light and Magic's Alex Jager) for the Dark Horse's graphic novel "Star Wars: Visionaries" was a welcome departure from the typical Luke/Han/Leia dribble we've come to expect from the Star Wars franchise over the years.
He also has his own graphic novel series from Image Comics called "SOCOM: Seal Team Seven" chronicling the adventures of a covert Navy SEAL team as they battle through exciting Tom Clancy/Science Fiction-type adventures.
