M. Kayveas

Datuk Dr M. Kayveas is a prominent Malaysian politician and president of the People's Progressive Party (Malaysia).

He was born on April 29, 1954 in Benta, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. He is married to Datin Blanche Oleary.

Kayveas became president of PPP, a component member of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional, in 1993. When he took over as president, the party was riddled with many problems and leadership tussles.

Today, under the leadership of Datuk M Kayveas, PPP is 300,000 strong with a network of over 3000 branches throughout the country. All members are registered and proudly carry a membership card that is signed by the President, while the President's card is signed by the Secretary General.

He is the current Member of Parliament for Taiping constituency. Previously, he was a senator in the Malaysian bicameral parliament. Kayveas was conferred the title of 'Datuk' by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on June 1, 1996.
