'M'Quve is a fictional character appearing in Mobile Suit Gundams Universal Century (U.C.) timeline.

He was a colonel for the Zeon ground forces under the command of Kycilia Zabi and supervised mining operations and supplies for the war effort. Foppish and somewhat effeminate, M'Quve fancied crystal vases, which he collected. He saw Char Aznable as somewhat of a rival and upstart. M'Quve, upon destruction of his Odessa Base operation in Europe by the White Base, fled to space where he would eventually meet the White Base and Amuro Ray's RX-78 Gundam in battle at the Texas Colony. There, M'Quve piltoed his custom mobile suit, a prototype YMS-15 Gyan, and faced Ray personally, only to be defeated and killed.

M'Quve was seen in the movie compilations but his death in battle with Amuro Ray was not included. This leads many fans to believe that although he was never seen again, M'Quve survived the One Year War and was instrumental in taking Dozle Zabi's surviving wife and infant daughter into hiding. Hiroyuki Kitazume, in his manga Char's Deleted Affair: Portrait of Young Comet published in Gundam Ace, follows the film continunity and has M'Quve killed early on in the story, during the retreat to Axis.

His name is sometimes romanized as Makube which better suggests the correct pronunciation ("Mah-koo-bay"). In the TV series Mobile Suit Gundam, and the movie compilations, he was voiced by the late Kaneto Shiozawa. Due to Shiozawa's untimely death in 2000, the newly remastered Japanese language editions of the Gundam trilogy had Masahiko Tanaka substitute for M'Quve along with all of the surviving original actors to reprise their roles.

[edit] Trivia

  • In Gihren's Greed, the Zeon player can override M'Quve on numerous occasions, including forcing him to turn over Doms to Ramba Ral (thus giving the veteran the edge he needs to defeat the Gundam) and belaying his attempt to launch nukes during Operation Odessa. Should the player allow M'Quve to do as he pleases during said operation, there is a good chance his nukes will devastate the Zeon forces as well. If this occurs, the player is given the option to imprison M'Quve for war crimes.
