M'Lila is a fictional character created for the cult television program, Xena: Warrior Princess. The character is played by actress Ebonie Smith.

M'Lila is a young Gaelic slave woman in the season two episode Destiny. She is significant as she is the person responsible for teaching Xena her famous pressure-point pinch. She stows away on a ship and Xena was very impressed with not only her fighting skills but also her unstoppable spirit. Not speaking Xena's language, the two of them develop an understanding based on physical gestures and comfortability. When Xena is asked to board Julius Caesar's ship, it is M'Lila who tries to stop Xena from going through with it due to an obvious untrusting feeling she has. Xena fails to listen and when Xena is crucified by Caesar, M'Lila sneaks to Xena's side in the dead of night and rescues her. She takes Xena to a trustworthy healer to try to mend her broken legs. Unfortunately some of Caesar's men follow M'Lila and she is killed by jumping in front of an arrow meant for Xena. Broken legs aside, Xena kills all of the assassins and swears revenge on Caesar. Later when Xena is hovering near death in a separate incident, it is the spirit of M'Lila who speaks to Xena encouraging her to live again.

[edit] Trivia

The pattern seen on M'lila's shirt is the same as Xena's breastplate.
