The Warthog is a Light reconnaissance vehicle use by the UNMC.

Informally known by Halo fans as just the "hog" the M12A1 is a light reconnaissance Vehicle From the Halo universe. Deployed by the United Nations Space Command Marine Corps, the Warthog has impressed many by its exceptional maneuverability for a three ton Vehicle (6000 lbs.). None of the halo Games or the novels reveals the maximum speed of the warthog, but it they hint that it can do at least one-hundred fifty miles per hour.
The M12A1 Warthog houses a fixed M41 LAAG (light Anti-Aircraft Gun) three barrel Machine gun. The M41 fires 12.7mm (50 cal.) rounds at a rate of 450 and 550 rounds per minute. The Warthog also has room for an armed passenger sitting shotgun to the driver. The passenger has the ability to shoot from the side seat to offer a little more defense aginst infantry and, with the right weapons, other vehicles. the M41 LAAG has light Piercing properties and is helpful against ghosts or Banshees as well as Infantry.

The LAAV (Light Anti-Armor Vehicle) Warthog follows the basic design of its predecessor. However, instead of the M41 being its fixed turret the G1 Houses a M68 Gauss Cannon. The M68 is capable of firing a 25mm highly explosive round at high velocities to penetrate most armor. The M12G1 has an asynchronous linear induction motor that creates a bipolar magnetic field to fire the projectiles at hypersonic velocity. However, the M68's slow rate of fire is not effective against large groups of enemies.
The two types of Warthogs compliment each other. Where one lacks the other makes up. The M12A1 is effective against light vehicles and infantry, but it doesn't pack enough punch to bring down a tank. The M12G1 is strong enough to put down a tank but its slow fire infantry.
