[edit] Mission Statement
Lyman Hall High School's Mission Statement is:
At Lyman Hall High School, all students can achieve at high levels in a community that acknowledges its diversity and provides challenging programs designed to meet individual needs.
[edit] History
Lyman Hall High School is named in honor of Lyman Hall, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who was born in Wallingford on April 12, 1724.
The school's original location was on South Main Street, and is the current location of Wallingford's Town Hall. In the year 1957 the school was moved to its current location in southeast Wallingford, where it rests on a campus of 39 acres.
[edit] Academic Programs
Lyman Hall High School is known throughout the state of Connecticut for its wide range of academic courses. The school is one of only four in the entire state of Connecticut that offers courses in all of the career clusters identified by the Connecticut Department of Education. In addition to courses in what are considered normal academic areas, i.e. mathematics and science, students can elect to take courses in Agriculture, Transportation Technologies, Communication Technologies, Construction Technologies, Food Service, Family and Consumer Science, and Medical Careers.
[edit] Agricultural Education
Lyman Hall is especially famous because it is a Regional Vocational Agricultural Education Center. Lyman Hall enrolls 225 students from Wallingford and nine surrounding towns for this program.
[edit] Advanced Placement Program
The pride of Lyman Hall academics is the AP program, particularly the social studies classes. Mr. Buchas was and still is the champion of Advanced Placement classes in Wallingford, Connecticut. Mr. Buchas has a variety of aliases. Some of the most popular are Buchas-Sama (because of his knowledge of Japanese culture) and Peyton (because of his uncanny ability throw the Pigskin). Mr. Buchas is well deserving of his seven figure salary mostly because he gets results. In Mr. Buchas' career at Lyman Hall, he has helped a number of students earn a "5" on their AP Exams. It should also be noted that in the fall of 2006, Mr. Buchas surpassed Mr. Stupakevich for the record for most TD passes in a single Flag Football game with a total of six, yet another reason for the seven figure salary.
[edit] Athletics
Despite Lyman Hall's wide range of academic activities, it is the school's athletics which generate the most pride. The Lyman Hall Trojans have a variety of athletic programs, including (but not limited to) ice hockey, swimming and soccer. The Friday night Football games generally draw quite a crowd, although the football team regularly provides less than stellar performances.
[edit] Lyman Hall High School Boy's Track
The most successful athletic program in recent history is the Lyman Hall Boys Track team, which won a state championship in 2004 and is on the road to glory this year as well.
Notable graduates from the Lyman Hall Boys' Track Team include Ed Neilander, Jay Zettergren, Andrew Pratt, Terry Barresi, and Tim Clark. Neilander currently holds the 300m Intermediate Hurdles record as well as the 200m dash record. Zettergren still holds the 4x400m relay record. Pratt holds the 4x100m relay record as well as the 100m record. Barresi holds both the 4x100m record as well as the Decathalon record. Finally, Tim Clark holds the 4x800m record, the 1600m record, the 800m record, and the 3000m Steeplechase record. Neilander received the Coach of the Year Award from the New Haven Register in 2004 for his coaching efforts which lead to both the Housatonic League Championship as well as a Class MM Championship.
For the 2006-2007 Indoor Track season, Lyman Hall employs a highly skilled coaching staff, the likes of which has never before been seen in Wallingford. The coaches include veterans Mike Addorisio and Chuck "Iron Chef" Liu. However, the team welcomes new expertise brought in the form of William "Shaggy" Vincent, Jay Zettergren, Mrs. Allen and Uma Thurman's twin sister. The most important coach to the Lyman Hall team is Sean "record-breaker" Elders. Coach Elders is the gasoline that fuels the indomitable conflagration known as Lyman Hall Track.
[edit] School Spirit
In Lyman Hall, school spirit runs wild among athletes, especially the seniors. Senior girls are known to prowl the halls in packs screaming chants and cheers between classes. The epitome of these chants and cheers is the Lyman Hall Track Rap. Although composed by three young men, this song and the verses within it speak for the entire school.
"LH Track, watch your back
Comin' at you like a heart attack
Find a finga in the pie
Wam bam in your eye
Double trouble diddily pop
And you know it just don't stop
Fiddily fiddily fee fii fum
Walt Oliver plays the drum
Irv Black's got no game
Like 2004 we'll do the same
Will V's hat got mad pin stripes,
Makes him look black like Wesley Snipes.
Look to the track to find the idols
Coach Elder comin at you wit nine state titles
Neilander's gone but we still gonna run
Step up to the line, there's the gun
Pull out the mats, here we go -
Four minute miles like we gonna blow
We got mad sponsorships, just like Puma
And mad hot coaches, just like Uma,
Thurman that is, she mad tall
Addo's workouts are off the wall
Look at him with that Fu Man Chu
His Timbs protectin' him from the doo
Look to the sky and watch the glare
Baker throws shot like he just dont care
His ancestors built pyramids outta sand,
Ismail's so fast, he gonna get banned
This man has no house, lurks in the dark
Musso's kick is gonna bite like a shark
Speakin' of the fish, we know who did it
Rachid comin' through at sub two minute
Relays and batons, we got 'em all
Ms. Allen works you till ya fall
This season's no joke we gotta focus,
Watch the track here comes Chris Krokus
Dwayne handin' out mad propaganda,
Porto in da circle, he gonna slam ya
Stephens just got surgery, its no lie
Justin just happy he still alive
Fresh outta LH, he's back wit style
Coach DP is gonna stick around a while
Amity don't scare us, we got knives
Thom Jacobs and his team can't look us in da eyes
Now let's not forget the four by two
Nieves is meltin' the track into goo
Don't leave your clocks unattended
T-Fex knock 'em ova... Splendid!
Here's the last memba you can conceive
Gabe's lookin fine you better believe
Let's give mad props to all the old captains,
This year's crew are merely fractions
Jacob's a traitor, he wit Middletown,
He in it for the money, lettin' us down
Once upon a time there was mad confusion,
Ed's resurrection was just an illusion
Laney gone too and wit her Sean
LH keep on goin', we is mad strong
Come to our meets, there's no free
Just watch your back for ODB!
Bob Davis on the prowl, hide your juice,
Cheez-its too, it ain't no use
No food or drink in the field house
Down on the infield, quiet like a mouse
Don't forget the man who started it all,
Tim Clark got his name five times on da wall
We gotta stop, too much to explain
Tellin' the whole story we must refrain
Class L is for Lyman, as in Hall
'07, here we come, we gonna beat you all!"
