[edit] Synopsis

In an attempt to bring a higher level of class and sophistication to VeggieTales, Archibald Asparagus requests and receives permission to run the show. The countertop is modified with a fireplace and wing chair (a la Masterpiece Theatre) and Archibald introduces the first segment.

His aim is the first VeggieTales' production of a Shakespeare play, but, unable to find the script for Hamlet, the French Peas instead procure the script for "Omelet". In this story, Omelet, played by Jimmy Gourd, is prepared the last eggs in the kingdom, "light and fluffy". His royal subjects are starving however, and despite his reservations he ultimately agrees to share his eggs with the kingdom.

Following this segment is the introduction to the usual "Silly Songs with Larry". Archibald intervenes immediately and changes it to "Classy Songs with Larry". The resulting song is silly enough anyway.

Finally, Archibald presents the "lost script of Gilbert and Sullivan," Lyle the Kindly Viking. In this episode, Junior Asparagus is a Viking who secretly returns his share of the loot to the Monks from which it was stolen. He is discovered, however, by Olaf (Perhaps based on Count Olaf from the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books) who attempts to destroy him. When a great storm sinks the Viking ships, the Monks rescue Lyle, who in turn convinces them to save the rest of the doomed Vikings. This show of kindness convinces the Vikings to turn over a new leaf, to begin sharing instead of looting and pillaging.

In the closing countertop sequence, Archibald discovers he's been duped and the the scene falls into chaos.

[edit] Notes and Trivia

  • The Veggies now have a new, less computerized looking design with larger facial features and less of a shine on the body.
  • Larry makes reference to the duo Sonny and Cher, one of which died in a skiing accident.
  • Mr. Nezzer and one of his chocoloate bunnies both appear in "Larry's High Silk Hat," previously encountered in Rack, Shack, and Benny.
  • As Prince Omelet and Percy Pea play a game of Battleship, they call their firing spots with numbers first, and then letters. This should be done letter number, but the improper gameplay is to set up a pun ("2B" "Not 2B").
  • The use of realistic-looking CGI water (such as in the storm scene and the "Look, Olaf" number) was practice for the various water scenes in Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie, which was released two years after Lyle the Kindly Viking.
  • This is the first episode to implement changes on Junior's voice. His voice is now softer and clearer, rather than the loud, distorted, and somewhat babyish voice he had from past episodes.
  • This is the second episode in which Archibald has aborted the silly song and replaced it with something that it as equally foolish and dumb. The first episode in which this happened was in Madame Blueberry.
