Lundtoft

Lundtoft is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in South Jutland County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 137 km², and has a total population of 6,184 (2005). Its mayor is Hans Philip Tietje, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Aabenraa, which it shares with neighboring Aabenraa.
Neighboring municipalities are Sundeved to the east, Aabenraa and Tinglev to the west, and Bov and Gråsten to the south. Its northern border is defined by the waters of Åbenrå Fjord and Als Fjord, which separates the municipality from the island of Als.
The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:
- Felsted Parish
- Kliplev Parish
- Varnæs Parish
By January 1, 2007 Lundtoft municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Bov, Rødekro, Tinglev, and Aabenraa municipalities to form the new Aabenraa municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 951 km² and a total population of 60,151 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
