Lunar magma ocean

As a result of the large amount of energy liberated in the formation of the Moon, it is predicted that a large portion of the Moon was once completely molten, forming what is referred to as magma ocean. Evidence for the magma ocean hypothesis comes from the highly anorthositic compositions of the lunar highland crust, as well as the existence of rocks with a high concentration of the geochemical componenent referred to as KREEP
