Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (Japanese: 風のクロノア2 世界の望んだ忘れもの (Kaze no Kuronoa 2 Sekai no Nozonda Wasuremono?), means Thing That The World Wants to Forget) is a PlayStation 2 video game by Namco released in 2001. Now, Klonoa and a new cast of friends have stumbled onto another adventure to save Lunatea and help unveil the mysteries of the enchanted world. There are dozens of areas in this game. Most are unique, including board riding, odd and amusing foes, and dynamic perceptual changes. Namco's improved animation techniques mixed with the combination of a 3D environment and a control system of a 2D action platform game make for timeless gameplay.
[edit] Characters
- Klonoa
Hero of the game, known as "Dream Traveler", one who was summoned to save unbalanced dream worlds. He always carries a unique ring which has some magical power.
- Lolo
Priestess in Training, who kept failing the test. After she met Klonoa, she was asked by the High Priestess to help Klonoa. In the game she provides the energy of Klonoa's ring.
- Popka
Lolo's friend, rude but easy to get along with.
[edit] Gameplay
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil consists of board-riding stages and boss battles as well as standard platforming stages. For most of the game you are stuck on a 2D path in a 3D environment. You can turn toward or away from the screen to interact with or throw things at objects in the foreground or background. In the standard stages (or "visions" as they are called) the goal is to reach the end of level by means of using the enemies to overcome obstacles and solve puzzles. Once Klonoa has shot an enemy with a "Wind Bullet" from his ring, you can throw it or use it to "double jump" - this is required in every stage and utilizing the enemies is the main focus of the game. There are also special kinds of enemies such as "Boomies" which explode after a certain amount of time - you must use these to break certain barricades. "Likuries" are another special enemy which absorb the enemies they are thrown at - resulting in them changing color from which point you can use them to break crystals of the matching color. There are also electric enemies named "Erbils" that make you double jump higher than normal, and enemies you can use to fly for a short time, such as "Teton". There are also jet-like enemies that rocket you up to higher parts of the vision, as well as cannons that shoot you to different parts too. In each vision (aside from boss battles) there are also at least 150 "dream stones" scattered around (though sometimes you can get a higher total than 150 if you manage to collect more stones than usual with the "mirror spirit" - which temporarily makes each stone worth twice as much and is in every stage) and 6 star-like items. For each vision in which you collect 150 dream stones you unlock a picture in the "scrapbook" and every time you collect all 6 stars you get a "Mommet Doll". You can get two extra "time-attack" visions by collecting these dolls. The game also has a World Map (where you select stages) and numerous cut-scenes (which are spoken in gibberish with subtitles). There is also a feature that lets a friend use a second controller to make Popka give a boost to Klonoa. This is most useful when more experienced players want to give younger and beginner players a hand. Other than that however, there is no multi-player mode in this game.
