This article was tagged as a copyvio from [1] and [2] but the text does not appear to be identical. howcheng {chat} 22:49, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I respectfully disagree... It is a manipulation of the text of (1) above:

  • HERRERA-ESTRELLA, Luis (Mexico). b. 21-6-1956. Ph. D., Director, Plant Biotechnology Unit, Centre for Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV), Irapuato, Mexico. Dr. Herrera-Estrella has made pioneering contributions in the development of genetically engineered plants, and the study of gene expression in them. He has paid special attention to transgenic plants for tropical regions, developing and transferring them to the small farmer. A much cited author, he is a Fellow of the Academia Ciencias Mexico, a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Science, and has also won the 1993 TWAS and 1989 UNESCO Natural Sciences Prizes. -- Elected as Fellow

and (2)

  • Luis Herrera-Estrella is an accomplished researcher and leader in the field of plant molecular biology. While still working as a PhD student, he published the first report on the genetic manipulation of plant cells. He also pioneered the development of dominant selectable markers and the use of reporter genes for plant systems, which later became the two most important tools to develop gene transfer systems for economically important crops. His current research is now primarily focused to the development transgenic plants better adapted to marginal soils. Dr. Herrera-Estrella graduated with a B.Sc. degree in biochemical engineering from the Mexican National Polytechnic Institute and received a PhD from the State University in Ghent, Belgium. He has been awarded several national and international prizes, among them the award in biology from the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the Minuro and Ethel Tsutsui Research Award of the New York Academy of Sciences and the Javed Husain prize from UNESCO.

I don't care that the author moved the sentences around, I care that sentences that are of odd construction ie "A much cited author..." appear elsewhere on the web verbatim. --Syrthiss 23:03, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I see that some individual sentences are copied verbatim, but there some information that does not appear in either source (e.g., "received a Ph.D. in plant molecular biology from the State University of Ghent, Belgium, where he also conducted postgraduate research.") It seems that it should be relatively easy to rewrite this to avoid any copyright violation whatsoever. All other information about his prizes and whatnot are facts and not copyrightable. howcheng {chat} 23:21, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
