Luis Gabelo Conejo

Luis Gabelo Conejo (born 1 January 1960) is a former Costarican football goalkeeper. He played in his country during the 1980s with his hometown team San Ramón and CS Cartaginés. He also played in Spain with Albacete Balompié, where he became and idol in the early 1990s.
He received international recognition during the 1990 World Cup. With heroic defense against Scotland, Brazil, and Sweden, he helped Costa Rica reach second round. He played 3 matches, conceding 2 goals. He did not appear in the eightfinals match against Czechoslovakia, in which his team was eliminated. France Football magazine named him the best goalkeeper of the tourmanent.
He currently works with the Costa Rica national football team, as the goalkeepers' coach. In his country, he is highly regarded by fans, even though he never played for any of the top clubs in the nation. Most of them consider him the best Costarican goalkeeper ever, and some the best overall footballer to come out of the country.
