Ludwig V, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt

Ludwig V, Landgrave von Hesse-Darmstadt was the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt 1596 to 1626 .
Born 24th September 1577 as the son George I, Landgrave of Hessen-Darmstadt and Magdalene of Lippe .
In 1604 he inherited a part of Hessen-Marburg ,after the death of childless Ludwig IV, of Hessen Marburg ,while the other half went to Moritz von Hessen-Kassel ,but since Moritz was a Calvinist ,Ludwig claimed right on the whole of Hessen Marburg,witch lead to a conflict during the thirty year war ,between Ludwig,who stood on the side of the Emperor and Moritz, who was on the side of the Evangelists.
He married Magdalena von Brandenburg and had issue:
- Georg von Hessen-Darmstadt (1605-1661)
- Juliane von Hessen-Darmstadt (1606-1659)
- Johann von Hessen-Braubach (1609-1651)
- Friedrich von Hessen-Darmstadt (1616-1682).
The Landgrave died 1626 and was succeeded by George II, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt
In 1722 an astronomer named a star,witch he tought was a planet, Sidus Ludoviciana .
