Ludmyrna Lopez also known as "Myrna" (1969-) is a Latina Democratic candidate for city council of the major California city of Richmond for the November 7, 2006 at large election. She is a longtime city resident. She is currently the city's planning commisioner and sits on the California Cities Community Services Policy Committee, West Contra Costa Unified School District Citizens' Oversight Committee, and Richmond General Plan Advisory Committee boards. Her nickname Myrna even appears on the ballot. If elected it will be the first time the council has two latinas and three latinos. Her platform is based on increasing community policing and expanding city services. She has been endorced by councilmen John Márquez, Contra Costa County supervisor John Gioia, Vice mayor María Viramontes, West Contra Costa School Board trustees Karen Pfeifer and Dave Brown, the Richmond Police Officers Association, Richmond Fire Fighters (IAFF local 188), Contra Costa Central Labor Council, Black American PAC Contra Costa, Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council, Black Women Organized for Political Action, Businesses for Responsable Government, Latina/o Democratic Club of West Contra Costa County, and California Senate president pro-tem Don Perata. She has proposed a "street appeal" program to unblighten streets, repave them, fix light fixtures, and plant trees, for general city beautification, presentation, and psychology. Lopez' slogan is, "running to chnage Riochmond." She won.
