[edit] Hong Kong Lasallian Volunteers
The idea of establishing the Hong Kong Lasallian Volunteers (HKLV) was originated by a group of graduates from different Hong Kong Lasallian high schools, who are also former committee members of the Hong Kong Lasallian Youth Movement (HKLYM). It was first mentioned during the gathering with members of the HKLYM when Brother Victor Franco, the General Councillor, visited Hong Kong last year.
We, the graduates, played an important role in organizing the Seventh Asia-Pacific Lasallian Youth Congress (APLYC7). Throughout the preparation period and the Congress, we were deeply touched by the spirit of the worldwide Lasallian Family. With reference to other Lasallian Volunteers worldwide, the HKLV finally came to its ground in January 2005. The establishment of the organization was officially announced during the APLEC (HK) meeting in February 2005.
One of the aims of establishing the HKLV is that we would like to continue to serve the Hong Kong Lasallian Family and our Alma Maters (Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) College, Chong Gene Hang College, De La Salle Secondary School, N.T., La Salle College and St. Joseph's College) with the Lasallian Spirit after our graduation. In addition, we would also follow St. La Salle's model of caring for the disadvantaged in our community.
There are a number of activities which are to be held in order to achieve our aims. First, we currently act as mentors of the HKLYM, by attending their committee meetings, giving advices and serving as volunteers in their annual service project with the Hong Kong Epilepsy, which was held in April 2005.
Induction Programme will be held for the new Form 6 student leaders from the HKLYM, Catholic Society and that of Student Associations / Unions, etc. We hope to strengthen their one and unique identity as Lasallians. We also hope to reinforce the fact that we are in one common Family, though we are studying in different high schools. It is also hoped that the leaders will inspire the Lasallian Spirit on the students of their own schools.
As captioned, we would follow the footsteps of St. La Salle's to serve and care for the disadvantaged. We will organize a sustainable service project for the community. All HKLYM members are invited to join and to serve as volunteers. Meanwhile, before the project is ready, we will hold individual service programmes for students to join.
Same as the HKLYM, the HKLV is more than just a service group. We hope that it strengthens the bonding between schools as well as between graduates and current students after the efforts we have paid.
Love is a matter of will and action. We do need your support. The action might be simply as joining and supporting the HKLYM. After your graduation, you are also invited to join our team to continue to live and spread the Lasallian Spirit – Faith, Service and Community. Go Shining Forth!
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to Brother Patrick, Brother Thomas, Mr. Robert Wong (LSC) and Mr. Francis Tse (LSC). They have given us a lot of advices and support in the establishment of the HKLV. Without them, our ideas and our dreams will not come true. Hereby, we bid our best wishes to the further development of the Hong Kong Lasallian Family, the HKLYM and the HKLV.
