[edit] Verifiability

To clarify why I added the {{verify}} tag to the page I will address just one thing from the current revision: The Beginnings and Expansions section. This section, as it currently stands, is full of so many holes that I might as well delete and start from scratch (which I will probably do over the coming weeks after reviewing the Official University Archives.) Until I am satisfied that the information in that article is correct and has been verified, I am leaving that tag on the page. Hopefully everyone understands and some enterprising Wikipedians join me. Thanks! --Nick Catalano (Talk)

Is there anything in particular that you notice to be blatantly incorrect? Or are you just assuming that there is misinformation? I don't feel comfortable having that up there unless I know for a fact that there is something wrong with it. As far as I know it is correct and up to date, of course I may be incorrect, so forgive me if I ask you to provide specific examples. I will leave the tag up in order to give you time to do so. Here are a few

• Water Tower isn't University Owned Land
• The latest expansion was not the purchase of Mund in 1991... In fact, I don't even believe it was a purchase as much as their lease just ran out..
• The School of Education must have closed down because they just made it a full major this year
• A few revisions ago there was a campus that Loyola didn't own for at least 5 years
• Martin D'Arcy Museum of Art is not open any longer... There is the Loyola University Museum of Art now

• We might want to say that the Martin D'Arcy collection was moved from the Cudahy Library to the LUMA downtown. It is scheduled to open in Spring 2007 - mlaird1

• Niles Campus? I have never heard of it... There was a campus that started with an M, but I can't remember it.

• You're thinking of the Mallinckrodt Campus in Willmette, IL. It's no longer there, but should the article mention it? I'm not exactly sure what went on there, I just know I used to pass a sign on the highway on the way to Loyola Academy. -mlaird1

• Skyscraper Building is no longer refered to as Skyscraper by the University

Ok I'll concede some of those. But I have a few contentions to make:

• The article never states that the Water Tower is university owned, it states that it is located close to the campus

The "Landmarks" section of the article implies that Water Tower is part of Loyola University. H Padleckas 05:38, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

• Niles College of Loyola University existed until 1994 when it changed its name to St Joseph College Seminary and moved to its present location on the North side of the campus. Scroll halfway down
• Skyscraper, while not officially used by administrators is used in great frequency by students, as well as being recognised by the administration as another name for the Mundelein Center.

And let me make it clear, I wasn't doubting you, I just would prefer if there be some discussion before the placement of a tag on the article so that we could work to fix it beforehand. Spikethehawk 03:18, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Understood... Also, I'm almost positive that the university does not "Own" nor even "Run" the Seminary, but rather the Archdiocese does... so that raises the question, was the Niles campus ever a LOYOLA campus? History of St. Joseph College Seminary and various other places on their website suggest that St. Joseph "is affiliated with Loyola University Chicago, which is the degree granting institution for the seminary" (especially since the name is now St. Joseph College Seminary of Loyola), but that it is not owned or run by Loyola and didn't attempt the full name until the move. So, the Niles campus was probably never part of LUC.

Under the section "Beginnings and Expansions", the Loyola University School of Dentistry is mentioned. On the internet, I looked for current references to Loyola University Dental School but found none, although there was evidence there was such a dental school in the past. A call to Loyola University revealed to me that Loyola no longer has a Dental School. H Padleckas 05:38, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

In accordance with the agreement made by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, which stated that only Loyola University Chicago retained the legal right to call itself Loyola University, this article should be moved in its entirety to the article named Loyola University. All other uses would be accessible through a disambiguation page, however an article for LUC would be located on the Loyola University page only. Spikethehawk 16:38, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

However, LUC has not chosen to identify itself as simply "Loyola University," all official materials use "Loyola University Chicago" and LUC has also claimed it does not want to use simply "Loyola University" in order to avoid confusion with the other Jesuit institutions. [1] I suggest that this page be returned to Loyola University Chicago and that Loyola University once again become a disambiguation page. -- SmokeDetector47 02:14, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

In regards to the 1996 AJCU agreement, the only source I can find is the articles on the Loyolas (Chicago, New Orleans, Maryland) explicitly stating this, Marymount excluded. I'd be willing to agree to make Loyola University Chicago the main LUC article, as long Loyola University redirects to Loyola University (disambiguation). Therefore any confusion would be avoided as to the proper usage of the phrase.Spikethehawk 19:27, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm confused as to what you're trying to say here. The main LUC article? It is the only LUC article. Do you mean to separate it from the rest of the articles on the disambiguation page, or what are you proposing? Euphoria 22:21, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

What I mean is to revert Loyola University Chicago as the article containing all the information on LUC. Along with this to use Loyola University (disambiguation) as the disam page, with Loyola University redirect to said disam page. Spikethehawk 22:26, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Can you give a further description than "rendering issues at higher resolutions"? It works fine at 1024 and at 1280 for me, though I can't test the higher ones easily. Euphoria 05:56, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

The uncited comment above makes me bring this topic up again: what exactly is the problem with blending into the other sections? These pictures have been gone for awhile now, to the detriment of the article. If no one can find a good way to add them back without minor rendering issues, I think we should just add them back. Loyola University Chicago's mascot Lou Wolf.

Formerly independent of Loyola University Chicago, Mundelein College was the first college to be housed in a modern urban skyscraper. It also used to be the tallest building in Chicago.  It should be possible to replace this fair use image with a freely licensed one. If you can, please do so as soon as is practical.

Loyola University Chicago has the only campus directly on Chicago's Magnificent Mile of North Michigan Avenue.

Three of these pictures are claimed fair use. Therefore they should only be reinserted into the article if a detailed rationale can be made to justify fair use—as all three would be easily replaced with a freely licensed alternative I suspect that no such justification is posible. Did Loyola's John Egan ever actually play professional basketball? He's not the same person as Johnny Egan. Zagalejo 05:31, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't look like it via Google searches. He seems to be a fairly successful lawyer, and was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, but I think that is just for his contributions to the '63 championship team at Loyola. Euphoria 14:00, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
