Low Desert
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Low Desert is a name for the Southern California portion of the Sonoran Desert to distinguish it from the adjacent Mojave Desert or High Desert. The low desert is the area surrounding Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, California, Palm Desert, Borrego Springs, Indian Wells, Cathedral City and Indio in the Coachella Valley. Joshua Tree National Park straddles both deserts. The two terms are often used in local TV and radio weather reports because of the differences in temperatures between the two areas.
"Low Desert" is also a country rock-influenced song by the rock band R.E.M. on their album New Adventures in Hi-Fi (1996).
