The result of the debate was no move —Mets501 (talk) 01:37, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Requested move
- Lou Grant (TV series) → Lou Grant —(Discuss)— no need for (TV series) in title, requested name is a redirect —Psychonaut3000 01:34, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Discussion placed here since the dab would also need to moved to allow the suggested move to take place. Vegaswikian 20:36, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

- Oppose. No primary use of name established. The dab is the best use for the name space. Vegaswikian 20:36, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose. Agree with Vegaswikian that it's unclear whether the character or the show is primary. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 20:56, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose - it is the character who came first. As noted below, better to move his page, not the TV series page. -- Beardo 03:07, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Merge the two of them into Lou Grant. Leave the the other titles as redirects. Gene Nygaard 05:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

- Uh... what? This discussion isn't about the content of any of these pages, only their titles.--SB | T 05:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- That's the whole point. It should be one article. Only one. There can be other redirects to it, of course. A good use of headers will make it easy for the table of contents to take people who are only interested in one show to the right place. Gene Nygaard 05:49, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Except (again) this isn't the venue to determine that, and I can assure you that plenty of people (myself included) disagree with your assesment that their should only be one article. Merge it yourself, put it on AFD, whatever, but this isn't even close to the right place.--SB | T 06:01, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- It is a quite legitimate area of discussion. If it makes you happy, I will make it more explicit:

- Oppose move because this should be a merger, which would obviate the need for any move. Gene Nygaard 06:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose move and merge. The character occurs on two TV shows. The character is also *not* the TV show. 132.205.44.128 05:56, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Merge for God's sake. Why do we need a separate article about the primary character of the series named after him? Even more famous Asterix doesn't do that. Duja► 10:58, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe because he was a character on another show before, as I recall one that won many awards and was among the highet rated on the air at the time, this other one that ran longer then the show you are suggesting that this article be merged into. Vegaswikian 17:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Discussion
Add any additional comments
- The requestor changed a dab page to the redirect mentioned above. Vegaswikian 20:30, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Is the character or the show the primary use of the name? One could make the point that it is the character since the show is named after the character. Vegaswikian 20:36, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- I should add that Lou Grant was also a character on the Mary Tyler Moore show. Vegaswikian 02:20, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Using a dab page is sort of silly, because it's really the same use — I'd say the character is the primary use. Move Lou Grant (fictional character) (not a good title anyway) here and keep Lou Grant (TV series) where it is.--SB | T 23:04, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
